I have a bose sound dock that is a few years old and doesn't have an aux input like some of the newer ones appear to. does there exist some sort of adaptor with an ipod adaptor on one end and 3.5mm jack on t'other (so I can for example listen to spotify on my laptop and plug lead from laptop into sounddock in order to not listen to on crappy laptop speakers??

I had the same issue. In the end I got one of these to plug into the laptop headphones socket, also ideal for taking on holiday rather than the sound dock! Its about the size of a tennis ball.

It's not quite what you're after, but the sound quality is miles better than laptop speakers.

search on ipod interface lead and you should find some for connecting to car stereos (separate out USB and audio). Not cheap though.

The op needs a female iPod to 3.5 mm connector. Those are male to 3.5 mm connector.

Doh! Of course, the iPod already works ๐Ÿ˜ณ . Mine's a Klipsch that takes a 3.5mm and has a cradle for my blackberry.
