Doesn't seem insurmountable. Just sell the 29er and buy the funnest 26/650b-er that you can find.
Go to Antur Stiniog and get loose!

Motorbiking used to basically be my entire spare time, I was so into it, then one day I wasn't, the bike's not moved since and I don't regret it. Now it's pushbikes, and if some day they stop being brilliant, they'll get sacked too and I'll take up backgammon, or wing suit diving, or casual racism or something.

I hope they don't though, bikes are ****ing fantastic.

If your bored of biking after 25 years then i don't think an inch or two on wheel size is gonna change anything. I'm confused why you've listed that in the same sentence? Either way, maybe you should get a new hobby, but i wouldn't start looking for that hobby in a biking forum with a attention seeking post.

I'll take some of your unwanted bike tat off you if you're not going to use it again. ๐Ÿ˜‰
How about that shitty Jones shopper thing? Amanda could do with something to nip to the village on. I recon that'd be just the thing for it.

I didn't miss it either.....

But a lad I work with has just bought an Aprilia RS125.
Seeing his enthusiasm just makes me want another one.

And some idiot let me have a pop on a trials bike last week up at a local quarry. ๐Ÿ˜

Want one.

Still love bikes, but love boats and sailing about equal. Get another sport while you like cycling to make sure you keep the love.

Have you just had a look at Giant's website, and now feel like you've got the wrong wheel size *again*.

Don't worry, they'll do it again in two years - and instead of saying they're just bleeding you dry, it'll be a revolution.

I believe this is happening to me. I rode my bike to the MOT station last year, then rode it back and put it under it's sheet. It hasn't moved since. If I get spare time, I'd rather go out on my push bike.

I hired a 29er a while back, didn't like it much. I've solved the problem by not buying one.

Casual racism is great. I hated having to get all dressed up to do it.

final realisation that 29ers are a bit crap

It's great you have realised it, some never do ๐Ÿ˜†

I'm not much into riding at the moment, I can't seem to find the motivation when it is pissing it down, muddy and dark.

Once the trails have frozen over I'm sure I'll be keener.

Get a road bike and rediscover cycling. The same happened to me after 22 years of mud and now I'm even fitter than I was then.

Do biking differently ๐Ÿ™‚ Downhill, or 4x or something. Trail/xc bores me these days, so I'm adding dh and maybe racing into the mix

To the OP's point, sometimes buying the 'wrong' bike can be a bad thing. I haven't come close to quitting, but may know where he's coming from.

I've found that going to bigger/less engaging bikes damps my enthusiasm a bit. Long-travel 29ers and 6in 26in bikes whose capabilities that I'll never live up to make climbing less fun and descending a bit numb. I don't think it's just me- the bigger friends' bikes get, the less they seem to ride over time.

It may not be as crazy as it sounds at first blush. I've sold off a few bikes that didn't excite me and just ride the bike that's best suited to my tastes and local trails. In any case, trying a bike that you're excited about (be it 26in, 650b, singlespeed, or 'other') may well be worth a shot if you've been riding that long...

I felt like this for a bit after going tubeless. Took up twerking and didn't touch the bike for six months. Eventually my wife got Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS team to do a shed makeover for me and that put me right.

Take up Magpie spotting, so far I'm up to 6.
The key is to look out for the tiny differences like a slightly different hop(bit like Ministry of funny walks) or tilt of the beak.

I was having this conversation yesterday, and while most designers can build a bike for most things, the wheel size always has the well documented impacts on the ride that we've all read about.

Via a via, chose your weapon; if you want quick and snappy then smaller wheels; if you want more centrifugal rolling capability get bigger wheels. If you want the best of / to compromise both, get 650b.

Bit has been said, it's more about the bike you enjoy riding.

Been there, done it and sold it. There are only ever two bikes you need to own, a MTB and a road bike.

Ive yet to find anybody who whilst riding their CX bike on road, wished to be on a road bike and off road, were wishing for a MTB. Like i said if you RACE CX that does justify it but for casual use, no way!. Sorry.
