Wondering if anyone can let me know what carriers they use to transport their bikes. I've got a VW Golf MK7 (2016). I don't currently have a tow bar so it would be an extra expense getting one installed. I've also looked in to roof rack and hang on types as well as a boot liner for the interior. Â

This is the correct answer. Also, Gumtree and Facebook have huge numbers of racks and roof bars for sale. Just do your research on what Thule model and length things are, as sellers often do not put model numbers but you often find that the racks are the same across different car manufacturers..

i used a wispbar and thule 598 (IIRC) and found it all a bit unsatisfactory. two sets of thule carriers here if you want to DM me an offer. creaking. this was attached to a mk7 gti but it wasn't like i was giving it the beans. well, maybe a bit. this is from someone who used to attach (lash) 5 kayaks to the roof of a polo 30 years ago without a rack and routinely did 60 through lanes...
just throw it in the back like i do now the feet of the rack have perished. or you'll have to fit and remove the rack because the UV gets to the feet and the rack distorts the door seals and you get leaks.
I did here that about the OEM racks which I believe are made by Thule. I have had it in the back but it's not ideal as we've got a child seat in the back which needs to be moved each time.Â
Had a mkV for years & used a Saris Bones 3. Cheaper than proper roof rack & quicker to remove/ install. May struggle with weight of 3 XL adult bikes tho ...

Different car now & have a Thule setup on the roof with 598s as the Saris wouldn't fit.
