Well I went into the local shop too my house in Warrington after having spoken too all the shops I could find around Sheffield and no one would touch my wheels. Even the chains locally.. (JEJames, Evans, Edinburgh) and I spoke too Mike at MJCycles in Latchford. He said he would build my wheels and quoted me a brilliant price including my preferred spokes (DT Plain Gauge).
Basically I brought the wheels in on Sunday and it took all day Monday for my rear wheel too be built. (HED Carbon rims with no idea of spoke lengths..) My front is still not finished. But it is a stupidly difficult wheel too build*. I went and paid today though and was told that despite my offer of more money than his initial quote he would only accept the amount I was quoted. Despite the wheels taking around 6 hours labour each.
So if your local thats the place I'd suggest you go for your stuff! Ill certainly be happier too spend more there than online now after the service I've recieved. Really above and beyond.
*Without scratching the carbon.
Carbon rims and plain guage spokes? Guess you've got your reasons.
And FWIW if it doesn't involve a bikini bike wash then it doesnt qualify as the best LBS experience ever 🙂

Rims are Alloy with a Carbon section bonded on. Plain guage spokes are a person preference. I find butted ones weaker and when I actually ride I can be quite abusive..
