Fender = tough, simple, look better with the crap kicked out of them, easily repairable, easily modified, pick up and play.
That's your basic hardtail innit?
Jag/Jazzmaster - Nu Skool/nichemonger/hardcore.
Strat - Do it all hardtail.
Tele - Fully rigid, steel frame.

Gibson = Overpriced, fancy finishes, badly made, easier to use, doesn't put up a fight, fussy about set up, never live up to the hype.
Yep, the full sussers of the guitar world. 😀

Les Paul Juniors are definitely owned by Orange 5 fans.

Yeti's & Jones bikes are bought by people who play PRS's. 🙂

Gibson guitars and hardtail bikes for me. I don't really like Fenders, they just feel cheap. Hardly ever ride what's classed as "proper" XC, just trail centres, downhill and jumping with the occasional bit of long mynd xc.

Come to think of it I like my Gibson-style guitars for the same reason I like my bike - comfortable and easy to play/ride, dependable and versatile 🙂

Have you considered a Jackson, Ibanez or ESP? 🙂

What a load of tosh. How can you make comparisons between the bikes you ride and the instruments you play.

I mainly ride a Litespeed road bike & play the tuba.

Matching the bass to the bike... 8)

Fender Japan '51 Precision re-issue = Inbred SS
Fender Japan '60s Jazz re-issue = 456
Squier CV '60s Jazz = Kaffenback
Squier VM '70s Jazz = Pompino

I can feel an STW band coming on! But that would involve starting a discussion on preferred musical tastes. Now that would be interesting!
Singlespeeders = Folk
Hardtailers = Thrash metal
Fullsussers = The latest musical fad that everyone else is listening to?

Ouch!

Tried them out and they were all a bit crap 😛 Sticking to Gibsons/Gibson copies.

loddrick, I thought it was just women you had a problem with, not guitarists.

Just for you:

Happy New Year.

Not sure where to start...

KingDoubleBass Tiger King, KingDoubleBass Slap King, Steinberger NS5, Warmoth 5 string, Hohner 5 string, 76 jazz, Warwick thumb 4 b/o, Takamine acoustic 4, Hondo fretless etc etc.

And don't get me started on amps...

Oh and a singlespeed !

Mudmonster - I'm jealous on both fronts!

On the bass front, I mostly play my old beaten up (but beautifully light) Aria Pro 2 IGB-50 (depsite my hubby having a P and a J in the house) and curently ride an Intense Spider 2...

I play guitar more than bass though - Fender Tele Ash body '62 reissue and a very nice Martin - oh and I'm also contemplating buying a ss cx bike?!

Hmm... I wonder if it's telling that I get to ride many different bikes and therefore have about 25 guitars of all types to balance it up. 🙂

At the moment, I'm riding carbon fibre full sussers and playing PRS McCartys - sounds about right. Maybe next month I'll get back to hardtails and Strats.

Nice parallel!

Note to self - steal next few issues of mag, they obviously have too much money as it is 🙂

Most of my guitars are pretty cheap ones. Ironically, the brace of McCartys came about after writing a bike test review where I said that a Trek Remedy was really good value for £1700 - and I realised that I'd never spent anywhere near that money on 'my' hobby, which is guitar playing. So I went impulse shopping and then spent the next couple of years beating the credit card bill with a stick. My 2011 resolution is 'no more guitars!'

I always said I'd never buy a really nice guitar 'till I could play properly, which is why I still play a Squire.

If only I'd applied the same principle to bikes & riding I'd have saved a good few quid over the years 🙂

I've got a Fender strat and Gibson Epifone copy. No full suss bikes though, they are definitely for those of the more mincing persuasion.

battered old Framus dreadnought, Ozark Resonator & Hofner Senator arch top + Orange Subzero but rarely ride due to poor health and a mountain of other inconvenient excuses (writing/recording album, need to do the hoovering, etc, etc)

Rusty Spanner - interesting approach. Kinda cool I guess, though when I bought my Tele I ended up playing it a lot more and therefore getting a lot better... (Just worth considering!)

(At least I don't keep changing bits on it to make it lighter! 😉 )
