hi, im thinking of taking the outer chainring off ,dont use it! i want to put a bash guard/face plate on instead,the crank is a truvativ fire-ex ,the question i need to know is do any bash guards fit any cranks ,and do i need one, say for example if mines a 36 tooth i need a 36 bash guard,thanks paul

As long as you get the right number of holes and bcd right they should fit fine. Depending on thickness of bash guard you may need longer chainring bolts. If you have a 36t chainring, fit a 36t bash.

bcd? whats that, also if the guard says 36-40 i take it ,it fits between those sizes, thanks again

Bolt circle diameter. The Fire-X is four bolt iirc...bcd will almost certainly be 104mm...you could measure it. I wouldn't worry too much though: if you go to CRC, you'll see some of the bashrings list bcd and some don't but if its 4 bolt, it'll most like fit.

i never used a bash ring until i though, right i never use my big ring and it was only getting bashed around on the rocks, kinda in my way abit, so i took it off and replaced it with a bash ring, ive never hit my bash ring since...........................
