I took the shock off to try and locate a creak. However, with the shock in my hand, I noticed something peculiar.

As I turn it over slowly, I can sometimes hear what sounds like a washer running down a shaft.

Does this sound likely? Guessing it's not meant to and I need to send it off at great expense.

not particularly familiar with the internals of the X2 but have had mine on and off the bike a number of times to fit new bushings, mount kits, adjust volume spacers etc - never heard anything loose or rattling around and pretty sure you shouldn't. have you opened the air can up to see if it's anything obvious?

if in doubt., send it to TF Tuned for a service £105 for an X2, just got mine back and feel's like a brand new shock again

Won't answer your question probably, but here's a pretty good rebuild video:

If its anything but a 2019 then the crappy xring will have already failed & dumped all the damping oil into the air chamber rendering it useless. See if it sloshes when shaking it & get it sent off.

It will be the top out washer rattling up and down the damper shaft.

That sounds like a reasonable (and non problematic) answer.
