Finally got out on the cx bike yesterday, 40 miles off road and I was blowing out my arse for most of it and a sore post-operation shoulder as well but it was a lovely day and the start of trying to regain some fitness.

Well, I put a shout out to some riding buddies this weekend, but ultimately, I couldn't make the times when they were available

well played beagy, glad you got out. You didn't miss much anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

Big thanks to chakaping for taking me around Rivington for a quick blast. Was very wet and quite muddy in places, but very enjoyable sliding around on the bike again. Has reminded me why I need to get out more.

I always struggle at this time of the year, the change of seasons tends to get me frustrated with the lack of light, cold, wet, mud & reality of acceptance that this will be the case for the next 4/5 months.

However, I made myself go out yesterday afternoon & actually had a nice time. Now I have an HT i'm enjoying the local stuff a lot more & it's much easier to ride nearer the limits.

In fact, i'm enjoying it so much i'm going to treat myself to a new Sherpa Ti as a celebration for getting a new job too. Will encourage me to put some extra training this winter as i'm heading up a new age category & stand a decent chance a winning a lot next year ๐Ÿ˜†

Yeah IainC, I saw you guys exiting Hermitage Woods just as I was beginning the climb. It takes me an hour to get through there and would have meant a painfully early alarm clock setting for a Sunday morning, if I was to get through there in time to meet up at 9am!

I figured Dumyat would be too muddy, so stayed lower and played in the woods. Still mighty greasy in places and I felt particularly guilty as I churned and slid along 'Love Child'.

It did the job though, and I'm feeling a wee bit more enthusiastic again!

^^^ You should have shouted at us ! Shaz was working in the afternoon so we had to be back down sharpish. It was extremely muddy on the way up - we took the low path up. As it was getting busy we came down the thistle trail from the style, which was a new one for me - was great fun, if pretty wet...

Probably been 18 months since my MTB has seen the light of day. Mojo isn't just dull it may be extinguished.

A combination of long commutes and living in a crap area for MTB (North of Cambridge) has lead to busy weekends, a lack of energy and no real motivation for the mud riding days of old. I do miss it though, getting the itch and have some reasonably free weekends in the next month or so, perhaps it's time to break the fast.

I'm struggling to find my riding mojo a tad at the mo - we've had just a wet, soggy summer and I'm struggling to find the motivation to ride in even worse conditions. Made worse by the dark nights. I'm not sure that I actually enjoy night riding that much either - I treated myself to a better light but it's still not that much fun.

I'm going to try and take the DH bike out this week to see if that reignites things a bit as I've ridden the trail bike loads.

Failing that, I'll try and get back into running this winter to keep my fitness up.

I went for a walk yesterday as the ground around here, I met a local lad I know who was out riding, covered in shite and grinning from ear to ear, despite the small matter have having lost one leg below the knee in a motorbike crash

We had a similar thread. I've ridden 40km this year, in total (and that may be an overestimate). Last ride of 2 hours was 18 months ago

Good to see you and thanks for waiting for me on the hills.

I was under the weather again this morning and had to cancel a job interview, so I may have got back on the bike too soon.

I think you need to prioritise fitness activities. Let's face it, they are actually more important than a lot of the excuses listed above. If you aren't enjoying it, then change your route / mates/ bike/ tunes etc. Last year I said to myself 'I will do some sort of fitness stuff Tues Thurs and at the weekend'. It doesn't get shifted for anything other than vitally important stuff. Yes I can't be arsed sometimes but the fact I have made a commitment to do it means i can't sit there humming and hawing about whether to go out or not and I ALWAYS feel ok once I am warmed up and have got going. As they say, the only truly crap workout is the one you don't do.

We rode over to Edale on Sunday, hard going in the mud and we got soggy feet but there was sunshine and it was great! ๐Ÿ˜€

Inspired by this thread, I've been out 3 times on the MTB this weekend and commuted (20 mile round trip) this morning.

The trails on Friday>Saturday were totally different. Bone dry on Friday and sopping wet on Saturday.

Yeah! Get in there Daffy!

I got off the bus last night after my 2hr 20min commute home, feeling completely wasted, but I had a plan.

I got in the house, fed the cats before they ate me, then chucked a microwave curry down me throat so my insulin had something to feed on. Chucked my telescope out into the back garden to cool, then got into my riding kit and went for a spin. No sitting down with a cuppa. No, "I'll just catch up on the news first". Nope, straight out the door again.

I only did an off-road circuit of the town, so was barely out for an hour and 20 mins, but I still had a cracking good time blasting through the slidey mud, wet leaves and murderous roots!

Again, I just felt so much better for it. No guilt, angst or self loathing for sitting on the sofa when I 'should' be riding! Result! Oh, and I got a good view of the nebulae around the Pleiades when I went out into the back garden later in the evening. Two hobbies in one night!

Did have a bitch of a hypoglycemic episode around 1.30 am mind you! ๐Ÿ˜›
