Hi, I currently have an Alfine with an 18t sprocket on the back but I'm looking to get a little more out of my commute so i looked in to getting a 16t. It seems that the only 16t Shimano sprocket you can buy is for the Nexus hub. I read on this forum in a closed thread that someone (geoffj) has fitted a Nexus 16t to his Alfine. Is it just a direct replacement or is there any modifications needing done to it.
Thanks in advance
I believe the nexus and alfine sprockets are interchangeable (the interface is the same) although the nexus ones are dished, so you may need to consider which way round you mount them - dish out or in - and take care of any impact on your chainline.
I have an 18 with 38 front and can spin at over 25mph.
That must be some commute you are one.
I was tempted to drop to a larger rear for that bit extra on the climbs.
I would love the 11 speed just cant afford one.
Thanks for the reply guys.
Steve, I'm also spinning out around 25mph but my legs still have plenty left in them. Just looking for that little bit extra.
