Heard a rumour the other day that there might be an introduction of legislation concerning the fitting of antilock brakes to ebikes.
Possibly to do with the general public buying ebikes as part of the 'get out for fitness' rule that came into effect during the height of this pandemic. There have been apparently a great number of accidents as the average new to cycling member of the public not being use to ebike weight and riding style, especially on the roads. Or more likely just the fact of lots of new riders getting out but having little to no bike road sense.
Anyone else hear this 😕 (probably last year 😆 )
Seems unlikely in the near future, you don’t have to have ABS on 125 motorbikes, although I think the brakes do need to be linked.
I would think it would only apply if the speed limit was raised in any case, otherwise they’d need to apply the same legislation to bicycles or create a new additional vehicle class which seems like a lot of work.
Edit - that said unnecessary legislation seems to be quite trendy at the moment.
