Looking at either the Glen Finglass or Braeval Loop from Kenny Wilsons book for a ride tomorrow afternoon.

Anyone know whats best? There looks to be some nice ST options on the Braeval loop, do these make it a more exciting proposition than the Glen Finglass circuit?

can't comment on the Glen Finglass route, but we had a walk through part of the forest directly above Aberfoyle (where the yoga retreat and "Go Ape" centre is) and there were some great trails in there. Think the Braeval loop passes through that area.

The Braeval loop is one for taking the missus round on, nice low key ride on forest roads. I'd say too long for novices, but OK for fit beginners. Definitely need to look at the ST options if you want an exciting ride. I only know the stuff directly above Aberfoyle, which was used in a SXC race a few years back. Good stuff, but you'd need more than this to make the ride worth it, as it's right at the end.

I've done the Braeval loop but with the optional singletrack (marked in the book) instead of just the fireroads. It's good fun, especially if you can find some of the cracking singletrack descents above Aberfoyle at the end. I'd do this route over Glen Finglass as while this route has nice scenery, it's a bit of bore to ride. I've done the two loops together as one before as well - if you have enough time this is a good route. You could make use Cafe at Brig O Turk to split things up and refuel!
