[Closed] 700c gravel commuting tyre, tubeless?

Seems there's a lot coming out for this sort of thing next year (Schwalbe g-one, Vittoria Tubeless Adventure Trail, Kenda Warthog etc). I'm looking to go tubeless (pick up my newly built iron cross wheelset from the shop later), and trying to find anything decent available now.

The main use is the commute - 18 miles each way to Aberdeen on a PX London Road, with a 60/40 split of gravel/dirt track and paved pathway (Deeside Way if you're familiar). Most available tyres seem more race focussed, my rear Racing Ralph is certainly looking a bit fatigued after 650 miles!

Hoping to go tubeless as pinch flats have featured a bit more than is desirable. Lots of stones and holes hidden under leaves etc.

Is there anything currently recommendable?

Wtb nano 40c. I've tubelessed the regular version on my ENVE xc, but they do a tubeless one too. Whether or not the tubeless one gets on the rim is another story...

Second vote for Nano - beware the sidewalls, they are a bit thin. Great tyre otherwise.

Compass Barlow Pass 38c. Toured Scotland on my London Road earlier this year, ridden much of the SDW then did Ride London on them. 45mm SKS Touring mudguards.

Not officially TLR but they went up easily with gorilla tape and stay up.

I run Extralight, Tubeless, 40 & 48psi

File tread so no good for wet mud & grass - I'd second the Nanos for wet muddy off road conditions but they will be FAR inferior in dry conditions. I've also used Triggers which are a good budget alternative to the Nanos IMO

Ive got stans rims on my cx bike and have run bit WTB pathway and Schwalbe Landcruiser tyres tubeless for gravel/mixed surface use, neither are tubeless specific. I dont go above 50psi to prevent tyre blowing off and its about as high as id go for mixed use anyway. The pathway are good for drier conditions but the tread isnt very deep so can struggle with wet leaves. Once the landcruisers are worn ill be getting Nano's.

Cheers guys, some good things to think about there. Nanos seem to be looking best at the moment.

On the dry, light days I tend to take a road route on the road bike, but those days seem quite a long time away at the moment 🙂

I emailed Schwalbe 2 weeks ago and they said the new tubeless road/gravel range will be available in 4-5 weeks so not too long to wait now hopefully.

Just taken delivery of my Specialized Triggers today for this purpose, I asked the same and also tried tubelessing my Kendas to no avail. The Triggers seemed the best available at the moment (without me having to change to bigger mudguards)

specilaized or bontrager have tlr cx tyres.

I had a non tubeless bontrager CXO blow off the rim at 40 kmh. left my elbow in the street.

so can't reccomend that

In the shed i have clement mso 120tpi in 40mm, not tubeless compatible but good tyres - clement ush 120tpi in 35mm not tubeless compatible but good tyres - compass barlow pass extralight in 38mm which are tubeless compatible and extremely easy rolling whilst on the road, pretty useless on gloomy wet trails tbh, they are quite fragile if you use them off road or even on forest roads as my sidewalls showed wear after less than a months use but since august i've been using on-one gravel road in 40mm which set up tubeless really easy.

If i had to choose only one tyre to keep/ride from the above it'd be the on-one gravel road - they are brilliant off road with bags of grip and very easy rolling on the road.

A couple of weeks ago they were down to £14.99 a tyre so i bought quite a few pairs - that's me sorted for the next few years.

May I ask if/how the On-One Gravel Road tyres coped with damp, leaf mulchy woodland with a bit of mud thrown in for good measure..?

Have also been looking at the Clement PDX but at £15 a tyre the On-Ones look good, certainly better than the Schwalbe Sammy Slicks that came with the CAADX...

The new kenda flintridge is a good tread. First impressions positive. Come up large, the 35c is almost the same casing size as a nano 40. Very different to the 35c SB8.

Did my first ride on the Triggers today - front needed a bit more air after fitting last night but rear was still sealed. They seemed smoother rolling but equally grippy as the SB8s. At a guess I think maybe a slightly softer rubber compound but less draggy tread pattern. Fitted under the 35mm SKS guards, just had to use a hairdryer to remove the crimp where the front guard passes through the fork. I might be imagining it but I think they throw up a bit more spray than the SB8s? It was very wet today though.

I havehave been using the Strata Biancasfor over a year as a road tyre with the odd bit of gravel thrown in. Nice and fast but only 30mm wide. Rather soft and liable to cuts. I would like a gravel tyre in about 40mm but fast rolling.
