have been having problems with the 1.8 splashback tyres that came with the bike (could feel a noticeable bump in the tyre even after taking off/putting tyre back on).also the tyres are starting to come apart from the bead.
anyhoo,as i am about to buy a new amp for my guitar tomorrow (no spare cash for a while),i thought about putting the tyres from my old mongoose fireball.have now fitted them and they both spin fine on the bike.my only worry is that the rear tyre is quite close to the drive side chainstay (less than 1cm i reckon).am worried that if i ride the bike, the tyre will rub against the stay.
i won't be going on any off road rides (just use the bike to go to town on,until i can afford new tyres).sorry to sound stupid, but would be grateful of your thoughts on the matter ๐Ÿ™‚ p.s have pumped both tyres up really hard,so there shouldn't be much give tbh.

Sounds like it'd be a nice way to get a load of mud/crap building up to me ๐Ÿ™‚

The saty will probably also flex and rub I reckon, being skinny and all.

skinny duster looks flexy. my inbred would get rub when standing out the saddle.

Nah, it won't be a problem at all. I've got a 2.3 on my skinny Lava Dome and it almost touches the stays and I haven't died yet.

It may be a problem in the mud, but you aren't using it in the mud so you will be fine. Maybe. ๐Ÿ˜†

A modern hardtail that won't take a 2.35" tyre? Are you kidding me?

5mm is loads, I've only got that on the rear of my Nicolai Helius with a 2.2" Specalized "The Captain" fitted, saying that they are pretty big for their size.

No rubbing to report yet.

I'd be more concerned about the fact that it's only close to one chainstay. Sort your wheel out and you'll probably have plenty of clearance.

And let your tyres back down! Having rock solid tyres won't make any difference to whether there's any rubbing on the chainstays or not, it'll just make the bike ride worse.
