Had a pain in my right abdomen for a month or so now. It's extremely mild and feels like a slight torn muscle.
Looking online I think it could be a sports hernia. Anyone had this?
I'm seeing the docs tomorrow but in usual STW fashion I thought i'd ask here
i had it.
get to see a physio sharpish as you are in early days.
a sports hernia/ gilmores groin is in no way at all a normal hernia.
good luck with it it can be a right nightmare.
mine healed in the end with persistent physio.
What were the symptoms and did a doc diagnose it?
Have you got a lump that pops out more when you cough - probably a hernia (speaking from experience).
i had abdominal pain and groin pain (like a normal groin injury) you need to find a physio that knows what a sports hernia is exactly because an awfull lot of doctors will just check you for a normal hernia which it is not.
have a look on youtube, actually hold on...

watch all of this fellas vids then see what you think.
it might be a small normal hernia though.
i kept the faith and stuck with the physio even though i was told the knife was the only answer. it took around two years to sort it fully (mine was bad though).
take lot's of advice don't rush into anything but don't do nothing either.

nope.. but i'm told a sports hernia is very different to a normal hernia. This is why i've found it difficult. It doesn't seem to be related to food, bladder function. I don't always get it when i'm on the bike either. Normally downtime before i go to bed.
no protrusions whatsoever
hi, i had one and put off getting advice, thought it would heal up all by its self.finally went and got it repaired by keyhole surgery late october. first two weeks recovery was painfull however all good after 4 weeks and back on bike week 6 onwards.
I thought I had a hernia a year and a half back. The pain was more intense when I lay back on my bed but not so bad whilst crouched over cycling...the pain when from the abdomen wall straight down into my ball sack....it lasted about a week or two but ended up being the vas deferens. I did take some pills for a while which were prescribed to me. There's a number of things that can cause hernia like pains but sure you'll feel a weakness in the muscle wall as described previously. Best thing is don't get paranoid it's one thing as it could be something entirely different. Take on board loads of advice but ultimately see a doctor.
Been to docs this morning. He was quite confused. Prodded me a bit but didn't think it was a conventional hernia. (no pain in groin) and i had no pain when he prodded.
Have booked an ultrasound so see where I go from there (also said it could be a nerve playing up)
sounds like the same sort of thing ive got ive had it for a few months ive not botherd going to the doc as its not realy a pain just feels like a light sprain or something cant feel it if im not doing anything and cycling dont seem to bother it but when im lifting stuff about in work it comes back but there is no lump?
