I am trying to find people who are actually running this and confirm that it works, I cannot find anything on this forum or across the internet to confirm.
My question, is anyone running Shimano 11 speed shifter, chain, cassette with a Shimano 12 speed rear mech? My current 11 speed SLX mech is on its way out, running it on a 11-50 cassette anyway, and I want to know if it is possible to run a 12 speed mech instead as it should work better with the cassette I use and maybe change to 12 speed one day.
Ta
Haven’t run it yet, but plan to.
Should be fine as the actuation ratio is the same on Shimano 11/12 speed stuff.
I have read that, but then references XTR being different and should work, I'm not in the XTR market, more SLX these days. Still on the look out for the definitive yes I am and it works/doesn't work. Thanks for your answer.
Yes
I have on my fs-
deore m6100 12 speed mech
sram 12 speed chain (11 also works fine)
11-51 deore 11s cassette
blackspire 11/12 chainring
oh and deore 11 speed shifter
theres hardly any difference between m5100 and m6100 mechs
Yes, I am.
A recent bike purchase meant I had used all my 11sp rear mechs and so I tried a 12sp one.
Works a treat.
11sp shifter (xt) and chain.
Sunrace 12-50 cassette.
Xt 12sp rear mech.
No issues yet.
docrobster, lardman excellent the answers I was hoping for. Thanks
I'm running a 12 speed deore mech with a 10 speed zee shifter, cheapo 10 speed cassette and an 11 speed SRAM chain, it all works just fine... Mix it all up, still works
you can get an 11 speed deore mech that is designed for 11-51 11 speed cassettes, that definitely works.
Got some great deals on 12 speed mechs from the Germans. £40 notes each.
cheers all, I will check out some prices. Off to Germany in later December so can even save a bit more and get one delivered locally
In case you want to get flashy at some point, 11/12 spd XTR pull ratios are the same as XT/SLX/Deore 11/12 spd.
