Hello All,

I'm currently running a 3x9 speed xt set-up, but my chain-set is on the way out. It looks like shimano are phasing out 9 speed so can I get the new 10 speed m780 xt triple crank and run that with my 9 speed stuff? Done a search on google, but can't seem to find a definitive answer, anybody running a 10 speed crank on 9 speed xt?

I know this is odd, but don't really want to fork out for a whole group-set.

Thanks

Yes, you can't have searched very hard, it's been discussed about 5 times an hour since 10 speed was announced! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ring sizes are different: 22/32/44 on 9 speed, 24/32/42 on 10 speed.

Thanks a lot, could only find discussions on race bike drive-trains. Obviously didn't look hard enough on here

Ok so the rings are a different size, but is the ring spacing the same? I would have thought that they would work fine though.

Yes, it will work perfectly. You could run a 10 speed chainset on a 7 speed bike if you wanted.
