Fancy new eMTB options from Vitus in the form of the 2021 Vitus E-Sommet range packing internal batteries and EP8 motors!
Vitus eBikes are great value for money and get rave reviews, but with those external batteries, the design was starting to get a little long in the tooth. It’s hardly surprising then that for 2021 the new Vitus E-Sommet has been revealed with a neatly integrated battery design, and new styling to bring it in line with its non-eMTB stablemates.
If you’re not familiar with the Vitus eMTB range, the E-Sommet is a 167mm travel all-mountain / Enduro / Freeride eMTB featuring an alloy frameset and a mismatched mullet wheel combo.
For 2021 the E-Sommet’s 6061 alloy frame now integrates a battery into the downtube not just for aesthetics but also in an effort to lower the centre of gravity for improved handling. The redesign also means that Vitus can either install a 504Wh internal battery or a larger 630Wh powerpack.
The new for 2021 bike will be available in 3 build options, the most affordable shipping with a Shimano E7000 motor, while the mid-level VRS and VRX get the latest 85NM Shimano EP8 motor, though if you want one of the EP8 bikes you’ll have to wait until early 2021.
Just as we saw with the new Sommet, Vitus has spent a great deal of time and effort finessing the new eMTB chassis and along with the new internal battery, the 2021 E-Sommet also boasts an SRAM UDH gear hanger, an Arcos headset with internal cable routing and Block Lock protection and improved bearing seals for better longevity. The seat tube has also been redesigned to allow for long dropper posts to be used while retaining full insertion, size small bikes can accept 150mm travel droppers, medium bikes a 170mm, and L/XL can pack a full 200mm of drop, however, what is supplied isn’t as long as what the frames are capable of.
On top of all this suspension kinematics have been fettled too for a reduction in anti-rise at the beginning of the travel and reduced anti-squat alongside an improved leverage curve.
If all of that wasn’t enough then the geometry has been reworked to give the E-Sommet a 77-degree seat angle, and 64-degree head angle, while reach features start from 430mm growing to 505mm on the XL frameset.

Good looking e-bikes. I do like the minimalist graphics.
