Megasack Giveaway Day 9: Ortlieb Seatpack QR

by 4

If you want to go bike packing on the kind of trails that demand a dropper post, today’s giveaway is just the thing.

Wednesday 13th December: Ortlieb Seatpack QR

You’ve probably heard of Ortieb, German manufacturers of high-quality outdoor equipment and waterproof bags. It was founded in 1982 by Hartmut Ortlieb who started out by experimenting on his mother’s sewing machine. But traditional taped seams weren’t waterproof enough, so Hartmut Ortlieb introduced what is now known as ‘high-frequency welding’ technology back. This makes them waterproof up to 100,000 mm water column. The precise process Ortlieb uses is top-secret.

Every Ortlieb product comes with a 5-yeat guarantee and if something should break, even after years of use, they’ll reapir it for you. There are also many spare parts for at-home repairs. All of their products are made under one roof in Germany, from materials 70%+ sourced in Germany. Tizip, another company founded by Hartmut, make the zips for all the Ortlieb products and the factory is across the road. They’re committed to reducing the environmental impact of their products, with each being advertised alongside the distance you’d have to cycle instead of driving to offset the carbon footprint associated with creating the product. For this seat pack, that’s 80.42km.

This Seat Pack QR fits onto your saddle rails with a quick release system, meaning it’s easy to remove and take your belongings inside with you, whether that’s a cafe stop or a far flung mountain top Refugio. The pack is dropper post compatible, making it a great choice for adventures off the beaten track. Waterproof with welded seams, and a valve to aid packing, and all made in Germany, you can stuff up to 13 litres of essential kit in here for your next adventure.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
