Pros
- Once ‘worn in’, the comfort is undeniably the best I could hope for
- SWAT bolts are useful for AirTag or saddle bag
- No heavy branding or obnoxious colours
Cons
- It’s £290.00
- It’s two hundred and ninety great british pounds
- If you have trypophobia, it’s a nightmare
The saddle weighs 252g, and on arrival I thought the 3D printed technology paired with titanium rails and a carbon base was all for weight saving, but having weighed my £95.00 Specialized Power Comp with Mimic saddle (also 143mm) and it being only 227g, I realise that’s not the case. Though still very light, the Mirror technology isn’t about weight saving, it’s all about comfort.
Designed to perfectly reflect your anatomy, Mirror technology is 3D printing with a liquid polymer, allowing Specialized to create a totally tunable honeycomb structure that basically mirrors your posterior. I called shenanigans on this at first, but over time this saddle has become very comfortable. A bit like memory foam, but not so plush.
I’ve had the saddle for just over a year, and in that time I’ve done a two week bikepacking trip, a 300km C2C, many weekend rides back to back and clocked up a lot of kilometres. For the first few months I would have argued that it’s no more comfortable than my Power Comp Mimic saddle, but having recently got back on that one for comparison I realise that the Power Pro Mirror saddle has definitely worn in to fit my sit bones as best it can. As with all saddle reviews, this is totally subjective and also highly dependent on the quality and suitability of the bib shorts, but there is no denying that the Mirror technology is doing something productive the longer you use the saddle.
Overall
If you spend more time on your bike than you do off it, if you are being paid to ride a bike, if you’re doing the Tour de France, or the Transcontinental, and you have an email from the bank saying that you’re about to exceed your balance allowance, then you could possibly justify spending £290.00 on the Specialized Power Pro Mirror saddle. It is comfortable, durable, and gets better in time. You always need a saddle. But it is £290.00.
