How To Follow Red Bull Formation 2022

by 3

Red Bull Formation, the women’s Freeride progression camp, is underway in the Utah desert. Riders and diggers have been scoping and preparing their lines in some less than ideal windy conditions. There’s been a rest day, and now the riding will begin. There’s no live coverage of the event – though you can expect some slick Red Bull edits later. So if you want to follow the action, you’re going to need to get on over to Instagram. Here are the key people to follow.

Cami Nogueria | Argentina

Currently based in Colorado, Cami has already been to Freeride Fiesta and has spent a fair amount of time riding in Utah with Chelsea Kimball.

Casey Brown | Canada

Once one of a very few female Freeriders to grab much media attention, Casey now has a whole gang to ride with, and she’s been to the DarkFest and Audi Nines events already.

Chelsea Kimball | USA

The local rider, Chelsea made her Formation debut last year and nailed it with a canyon gap jump – despite needing a knee brace and surgery soon after the event. Chelsea is back to fitness and touring the Freeride circuit, with DarkFest and Freeride Fiesta to her name already this year.

Georgia Astle | Canada

A new face for Formation this year, you might have seen Georgia throwing shapes at Casey Brown’s Dark Horse event last year.

Hannah Bergemann | USA

She’s been to every Formation so far, here she is again. Whoop!

Harriet has been busy organising her own women’s Freeride development event in Australia, and is back out in Utah to see what she’s learnt since last time she was here.

Louise Ferguson | United Kingdom

Nukeproof rider Louise Ferguson is from Fort William but currently based in New Zealand. This is her first year at Formation.

Robin Goomes | New Zealand

Robin Goomes. Re Wikstrom / Red Bull Content Pool

This is Robin’s first year starting at Formation, although she was there last year supporting Vaea Verbeeck and has already been to DarkFest this year and Audi Nines last year, so she’s no stranger to this style of riding.

Sam Soriano | USA

Vaea Verbeeck | Canada

The two-time Queen of Crankworx returns to the Utah desert.

Vero Sandler | United Kingdom

Covid restrictions kept Vero away from last year’s Formation, but she’s back in the desert this year, after other big showcase trips to Darkfest and Audi Nines.

Vinny Armstrong | New Zealand

Look out for heaps of style from Vinny. There’s something about the way she rides that just looks so effortless.

As well as the riders, look out for Instagram posts from Formation organiser Katie Holden, plus the dig crews.

As well as helping to grow the women’s Freeride scene, Katie Holden has also encouraged female photographers to cover mountain biking – there was a development scheme organised by her at Red Bull Rampage last year. Look out for some top notch photography coming from the site.

If you spot any other diggers and riders out there with footage from Red Bull Formation, post them in the comments!

We’re looking forward to the action kicking off! Until then, this will whet your appetite.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.
