by 18

If you’re a Singletrack Member you can sign up to our monthly newsletter. And you should, because the newsletter that will be sent tomorrow will contain the chance to wear a pair of Shimano shoes, thanks to our pals at Madison/Freewheel.

Shimano AM7 Shoes

  • Price: £109.99

Back to the clippy riders again, we have these, which have the neoprene collar again but also an extra velcro strap on top of the laces to keep things extra secure.

  • Mesh and TPU upper absorbs less water and dries quickly
  • Robust toe cap for additional toe protection

Shimano GR5 Shoes

  • Price: £79.99
  • Size available: EU 44
  • From: Freewheel

With flat soles and skate shoe styling, you could likely get away with wearing these on and off the bike, though with a proper sticky sole and a stiffness rating of 6, they’re definitively proper bike shoes.

  • Lower-profile, skate shoe silhouette, has shed over 100g compared to the previous GR5s
  • Improved toe & ankle protection
  • Updated mesh and synthetic leather upper to reduce weight and increase breathability
  • Tried and tested sole mould design with stickier proprietary Shimano rubber compound
  • Weight: 350g (size 42)
  • Stiffness rating: 6

To be in with a chance of winning, you need to be signed up to our Members’ Newsletter. The link to the giveaway will be in the Newsletter which gets sent out on 15th March, so sign up below and don’t miss out! Prizes will be sent to UK addresses only, sorry.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

What’s up with the specific-size prizes?

I see you have them with you already, but Freewheel have these in stock in many sizes.

Not that I’m ungrateful for you putting on a giveaway, but it’s surprising not to be able to choose a size for something that has to be sized perfectly. Also perhaps women would expect to be able to choose the womens’ variants.

We were sent these a while ago as the sample sizes that happened to be available and sitting under a desk. The folks at Madison thought free shoes was better than no shoes, or giving the sample shoes to their staffers, so they sent them over to us to give away to you.

The giveaway will be structured so you can enter to win any, some or all – it’s up to you if you actually wear them or just sell them on!

If you guys aren’t bothered about people wining and selling them on, why not auction them off on the site instead and give the proceeds to either a food bank or one of the many charities supplying aid to Ukraine?
    Just a thought.

@crossed We’ve made a separate contribution to the raffle being run by Cyclorise. If the winners of these shoes want to put them to philanthropic use they’re welcome to do so. But we know there are also plenty of our own readers who are having a tough time or feeling the squeeze, and for them we imagine a nice surprise of a free pair of shoes would be a welcome plus to their week.

That’s entirely reasonable, Hannah. Mine was merely a suggestion and not in any way having a dig at you guys.
Good on you for contributing to the Cyclorise raffle as well, it’s a hell of a prize they’ve put up.

Yep – will gladly stick my name into this comp. – might have to squeeze feet into a few but as Hannah says free >> none almost every day of the week!!

Anyone every cycle with no socks in this new enlightened age (asking for a friend!)??!!

Yes, already have sweaty feet and I went through a pair of Specialized SPD shoes in 3 months as I seemed to have rotted them!

Thanks for the explanation. Just read about the flat pedal group test that will be in issue 142, then it started making sense.

Do we get a choice of shoe?

Daft question – has anyone had the newsletter yet? Quite possible I deleted it given most of yesterday I had a cognitive capacity of a brick and the awareness of your average driver but I can’t see it in my bin either.

    I’ve entered thanks 🙂

If you do a giveaway like this again, would it be better to allow each person to enter once and choose the pair of shoes they want to win? Then for each pair of shoes you pick someone randomly from those who’d chosen that pair. That way the winners would be more likely to win shoes that fit them.
