DMBinS Survey | What Trails Do You Want?

by 4

While lockdown might be limiting riding opportunities right now, that doesn’t stop policy makers planning for the future. Scotland has been pushing mountain bike tourism and activities through DMBinS, and their work continues. Right now, they want your input on what trails you want, so that they can make the right kind of plans for the future.

DMBinS
Do mountain bike trails need to be in the mountains – and other questions.

DMBinS (Developing Mountain Biking In Scotland) is part of the DIRTT Project (Developing Inter-European Trail Builder Training), which is a partnership that aims to develop trail design and building guidelines with an educational framework and associated professional training programmes. By sharing resources, knowledge and ideas, the partners aim to help mountain biking continue to grow across Europe – countries currently involved are Switzerland, Portugal, Scotland, Netherlands, Denmark and Norway.

Right now, they’re looking to be better informed about what they should be building, and are asking questions like:

  • What trails do you like to ride?
  • What trails should there be more of?
  • Are there trails being built which you love? Or hate?

You can give all these answers and more in this survey. It takes about ten minutes to complete.

I came to Singletrack having decided there must be more to life than meetings. I like all bikes, but especially unusual ones. More than bikes, I like what bikes do. I think that they link people and places; that cycling creates a connection between us and our environment; bikes create communities; deliver freedom; bring joy; and improve fitness. They're environmentally friendly and create friendly environments. I try to write about all these things in the hope that others might discover the joy of bikes too.

I may have to move to Scotland. It’d be a wrench leaving the wife and kids, but I’m sure they’d understand 😀

Trails are great and all but I feel we need more pumptracks around parks and off high streets.

I thought that was actually a rather well designed survey. Felt like they understood biking well, and I appreciated the kind of questions they were asking. Very good, I hope as many Singletrack readers as possible have completed answers.

Which reminds me I must make a couple of applications to my local definitive map with the council.

Always worth completing these surveys, data is key now in development.
