Not your average textiles project…

By the looks of its Twitter and Facebook accounts, Derbyshire gear and hardware brand Alpkit is branching out into bikes.

With its well-received range of colourful bikepacking luggage already a common sight on UK trails, and a number of endurance riders on its books we should probably have seen this coming, but it’s been rather a surprise (albeit a very nice one). Especially as that’s Stoodley Pike in the background of the pic below – barely a freewheel from Singletrack Towers…

While Alpkit has declined to comment and has put only the coyest of teasers on its own media, there is – of course! – a bit more gossip on Bearbones and on the Singletrack forum. Obviously it’s all speculation at this point but we’re looking forward to seeing how much of it turns out to be true over the next few weeks.

What do you think? Are bike frames a natural progression from bike luggage? Or is it all just the hypothermic ramblings of folk who have eaten too much snow?
