Someone has been keeping an eye on MTB trends…
Given the prices being asked for even the cheapest 11 speed cassettes, it’s no surprise that someone in the Far East has been working on an alternative. Frankly, we were hoping for more of this sort of thing- but only a couple of suppliers were showing low-dollar wide-range drivetrain options.
One was Response. With their Free Ranger 40 and Free Ranger 42 cassettes the company offers a 364% or 382% range that works with (tweaked) 10speed clutch-type derailleurs. That’s essentially what many of the current crop of range extender cogs offer. Oh, and they make those too, and narrow/wide chainrings to match.
Those seeking some extra leverage will appreciate Fouriers’ oval narrow/wide ‘ring. Quite possibly inspired by Rotor’s offerings… and quite certainly less expensive made in Spain.

What sort of low dollar? Any pricing?
Tang,
These were in the Taiwanese manufacturer aisles- no retail pricing. But you might expect to see them under any number of companies’ private label brands in the coming year or two.
