The Open 5+, an endurance race compromising of running across Lakeland fells and then hopping onto your mountain bike, will be held near Coniston on May 15th.
The event, which is for pairs only, is the first race in the planetFear Endurance series and will combine running with mountain biking. The event sold out last year, so this year to make things even tougher, the organisers have a few surprises in store hence the title 5+. To get your entry in visit www.openadventure.com
The planetFear Endurance Series include 5 hour, 12 hour and 24 hour adventure races. The races are traditionally comprised of mountain biking, running and a few surprises – perhaps an abseil, a canyon or even a kayak! The races are only open to male, female and mixed pairs.
planetFear has put together a suggested kit list for the events – highlighting the best gear out there for adventure racers. This should give all potential racers an idea of what they might need to get safely to the finish line. It will definitely help as you prepare for the unexpected. Great events, couple of years ago I did the endurance series. The extras included caving (with some proper wriggling), tandems, and some water jumps that gave me (and a lot of others) a bit of a pause.
And a swim across Wast Water.
