Fabulous strike and a great game. Should have been over by half time but fair play to him, he finished it nicely.
Posted 3 years ago # -
that was a little too close for comfort.

Jebus but the filth are having some serious luck this season. I thought you only got this sort of thing in the CL usually?!
(totally deserved, of course. But if there's one team you can guarantee will score in the last seconds having hit the woodwork 4 times, it's Beelzebub's lot...)

Aye, but fair dues, it's been a hard ground flor away teams...ask the scum.

Speaking of the north-east...what a disastrous day for them...aren't all three NE teams in the bottom three? Shearer's second coming, I'd love it if he took them down, I'd love it!!

Wrong forum lads (I assume you are all lads - God forbid any female would want to post on this thread)
This belongs on the:
Inarticulate, cliche-ridden, poorly spelt and punctuated, written-as-spoken, macho-aggressive football bollox Forum
I know there isn't yet such a forum on STW
No doubt one day there will be
Until then, please shut TFU

Elridge, the voice of reason and tolerance on STW. It's funny but I could have sworn that topics on the Chat Forum can be about anything that doesn’t belong on the Bike Forum - "Politics, general chat, current affairs, latest movies, big brother, the price of fish.." and so on ad infinitum.
The thing I don't get is the compulsion/need to comment on things you profess to have no interest in. It's like the oddball who runs into shops on a Sunday in my local town and starts screaming at the shoppers about the price of fish or the little man who, after a few pints, thought he was the thought-police and used to run around the pub shouting "Oi you, NO!" at people having conversations he wasn't part of.
Admittedly it's mildly amusing to begin with...

how upset are you all today then?
Posted 3 years ago # -
In fairness, we can hardly complain about you winning with an injury time goal (that was apparently excellent; only heard it on the radio). However, you should be a little worried that you nearly lost at home to a team that Liverpool thumped 5-0 a week ago. The title is still most probably going to Old Trafford, but it's fun to see the red nosed twunt feeling the pressure a little.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Liverpool thumping them 5-0 the other week means nowt. Man U have thumped Stoke 5-0 and Liverpool haven't even beaten them this season. Does make for an exciting end of season though. Just about shades the SPL up here for excitement... no, really...

Victory against the odds today, fair play but lucky!
Posted 3 years ago # -
RudeBoy, how about scoring late? Well done yesterday but Liverpool's place isn't on the top (but above Chelski) as it's like Carlsberg - awful and gutless.
Off to get my coat.....Posted 3 years ago # -
in a brief moment of STW fairness yes ours was a lucky win today and yours deserved does make it interesting which is good as it did look dull a few weeks ago.

Yossi done well.
Great player for Liverpool. Just a shame that will always be tarnished by the fact you guys tapped him up.

Tapped up, yawn, shock horror, the well-off clubs use their influence in a less than ethical manner. Wake up will ya!

Hi Woffle
I know this is much too late but:
The thing I don't get is the compulsion/need to comment on things you profess to have no interest in
I have no interest in being a Nazi, but I'd like to be able to comment on Nazi ideology
I have no interest in football, but I'd like to be able to comment on the ideology of football
For example, the references in the above post to
the filth
Beelzebub's lot
the scum
scumchester
I'd love it if he took them down, I'd love it!
shows that football is a violent and brutish sport, and those who slavishly follow it are prone to partisan attitudes which are ultimately highly undesirable
it's mildly amusing
mild amusement isn't really a contructive approach to the appalling problem of violence in football
the Chat Forum can be about anything that doesn’t belong on the Bike Forum
OK - so long as it doesn't encourage users to view other users as "scum" or "filth"
But I know this is a hopeless appeal, because you like football
Posted 3 years ago # -
Oh for Gods sake, get over yourself.

it does? blimey. And there was me just thinking that most of those comments were just widely accepted nicknames. A bit like how many people on STW don't have their real names as their user names. Does this show that STW is a violent and brutish forum?
I'd love to know how you managed to work football violence into this thread. Hang on, you worked football violence AND the Nazis into this thread. This shows that you area a violent and brutish person. etc.Posted 3 years ago # -
eldridge you make an excellent point that some of the "fans" confuse supporting their own club with hating other clubs.
I like Rock lobster frames which manufacturer should I hate?
most of those comments were just widely accepted nicknames
So you have friendly nick names for your mates like scum and the filth then... what do you call someone you dislike then? *
FFS supporitng your own team is one thing insulting other teams is another thing entirely and does indeed say something about you as a person. It reminds me why people occasiionally give you that look (always in the violent racist 80's) when they find out you like football....they think am I like that.* If you are witty enough you will say Junkyard there!!

Tapped up, yawn, shock horror, the well-off clubs use their influence in a less than ethical manner. Wake up will ya!
Oh.
So it makes it ok to break the rules because you're a well off club?
Sorry I mentioned it.

Late from my end and I know I shouldn't rise to it and leaving out your compulsion to be the self-appointed moderator of stw...
...football is a violent and brutish sport...
I think you're wrong on this on. Football can be a beautiful game - admittedly watching the Leeds United of old it's not pretty but I challenge to watch Brazil at their best and point out the ugly bits. Rugby is violent, boxing is brutish but football? No, not really. Calling it thus because some of those who play it in the public eye don't behave correctly is wrong. Football isn't violent and played well and with skill it's certainly not brutish.
...those who slavishly follow it are prone to partisan attitudes which are ultimately highly undesirable...
Welcome to the human condition. Tribalism and partisan attitudes are part and parcel of society - rivalry and all that comes with it are prevalent in everything to schools to our local WI. Isn't it a bit OTT to be painting football as undesirable because those who watch it tend to have partisan attitudes and SURPRISE, these views have extremes at either end of the spectrum? After all, that Dr Shipman was rather nasty hence all Doctors must be dodgy and to be avoided - let's ban discussion from them on STW.
mild amusement isn't really a contructive approach to the appalling problem of violence in football
It's you I found mildly amusing. Appalling violence in football? Where did that come from? I'm not condoning violence on or off the pitch. Nor am I saying that the behaviour of some football players is anything other than reprehensible. I just don't agree with trying to lever an entire sport into the "topics that shouldn't-be-discussed" because some minority elements of it, on and off the pitch, are unpleasant. I don't agree with calling another team and their supporter's scum but I think that if that's a truly held belief on the part of the fan in question then it says far more about the individual than it does about the sport.
But I know this is a hopeless appeal, because you like football
I'm sorry but FFS what are you talking about? Hopeless appeal to what exactly? (And I don't see anywhere in this discussion where I said I like football). How exactly is this any different to Liverpool supporter calling Manchester United 'scum' - it looks like stereotyping of the highest order. What am I, some sort of pleb because I like football? That's it - I must be some kind of thug. I congratulate you on your insight. My grandfather loves football - he's coming on 90, was a nursery gardener for the majority of his working life, is tri-lingual and has a passion for german poetry of the 16th century. A more gentle, intelligent man you'd struggle to find. But of course, as he likes football he obviously spends his weekends raising hell and kicking my grandmother down the stairs. I certainly can't have a conversation with him because he's too busy being violent and brutish*
Good grief.
* not true, by the way.
