[Closed] Widest tyres on a Cotic X?

Im looking for some monster cross style wide 29er tyres for my Cotic X. Website states 42c max, so I may be limited to 1.6" smart sams. Are there any other options that people have run? I've got the carbon forks if that makes a difference.

Cheers

I had exactly the same question earlier this year. No one knows. I have some 38's in mine and doubt I could go to 48's.
When you find out and prove it, let me know.

They are Raleighs. Actually CST (Chen Shing ) jobs. Cheap and grippy. Whats has stopped me investigating further is the bthought of buying something that won't fit or is still narrower than I can get away with. As every tyre comes up differently for the same size I am wary.

Just ordered a 1.75" Schwalbe Smart Sam to see if it will fit the front fork, quick measurement shows it should (and it will be fine on the back wheel if it doesnt). Will let you know how i get on.

I can say utter confidence that Kenda 1.95s don't come anywhere near close to fitting ๐Ÿ™‚

I can confirm that the 1.75" Smart Sams are too wide as delivered (on both front (carbon fork) and back wheels), a quick trim of the side knobs sorted that for the rear, until the knife slipped when finishing a final skim, and I sliced a 6" cut into the tyre.... Oh why did I try to do a final skim to 'tidy up'?????

Off to order some 1.6" smart sams now...

The 1.6" Smart Sams measure up as 38mm casing, 41mm across knobs, so fit with no trimming. Not sure a larger tyre will fit.

The 1.75" Smart Sams were 44mm carcass, 47mm across knobs, and needed trimming of the side knobs.

Smart Sams are a good tyre for the price. I had them on my Roadrat freak bike 29er fixie until I managed to shoehorn these in:

From what y'all is saying though sounds like they wont go on the crosser

Spin,
Those side knobs would need a trim to fit in an X. Any chance you could measure the width across the knobs and carcass width when fitted to a wheel?

Gary,
I'll try and do some over the weekend. The 1.6" has loads of clearance (41mm at widest point), the 1.75s needed trimming of the widest side knobs, which wasnt too much of an issue until I got carried away and slashed the tyre ;-(. The 44mm carcass width was fine.
