Got an LG renoir, great phone but time for an upgrade, I like the iphone but the contracts are way over priced for what you get so what phone should I get, needs a decent 5mp + camera, internet access, hold music, games etc. Been thinking of the HTC HD2... if anyone has one can you confirm.. can you configure the wifi so other devices can use the web access eg. Laptop or Ipod touch to access the net through the phones wifi, looks the best deal around and I could get 600 mins + 3000 texts and unlimted web for £25 per month. Either that or any other phones? cheers

You could always buy a 2nd hand iPhone or one on pay as you go and then get a sim only type contract. it's what I did and works out far far cheaper in the long run and you get more text/mins for your money.

Recently got an HTC desire and am well pleased with it.
I looked around and t-mobile seemed to have the best deals. Just depends what their reception is like in your area.

can the desire with android be used as a mobile "Link" for a lap top or Ipod touch? thats why i liked the HTC HD2 as its mobile OS can be used as a wifi access point. also the desire seems to have the best deals im on a strict budget of £25 per month. Im on t-mobile now but will move if I need to

have a HD2 - yes i believe you can.
also when you plug it in with a USB cable, it comes up on the screen if you want to have the phone act as a WiFi router, or you can switch it on in the settings menu.
it can used as a mobile modem.camera is very good.
this was taken on the HD2.
Also has 2 LED lights with the camera as a 'flash' (there is also a programe (or app in iphone speak) you can install where you can use the LEDs as a torch)
Internet very good on it. it also supports flash pages.storage wise for music - mine came with a 2Gb microSD card (with SD card adaptor so it can be used in old full sized SD card slots.) but it supports the current 16Gb and 32Gb microSD cards, so it is full expandable. when installing games and programes you can chose to install to the phone or the storage card.

thanks all seems either would do what I want it to... both get great reviews as the top 2 with the iphone. Having the flash player for me is a must + £30 odd quid a month for a small tariff puts the iphone out.

for Youtube theres a separate viewer built in that opens when you click a YT link.
BBC iplayer is a little tricky - when i last tried it, it said phone not supported - but i poped into the registry file and changed the device identification, which sorted the support issue, but said iplayer only available on the 3 network. quick search of XDA-Developers.com had me sorted out.
installed myplayer, and coreplayer and iplayer (TV and radio) now fully accessable. and have added a link so i can listen to Planet Rock.
i can also listen to other online radio via the streaming media program

The HD2 runs windows mobile 6.5 which is about to or already is superceeded with Windows 7.
I would favour the Desire over that as it runs Android.

I've had my desire for a week and it is very impressive. My iPhone friends have been very defensive!
However, the battery is proving an issue. A slow day at work will see the battery flat within 6hrs!
2nd battery is on order.

at least you can do that with HTC phones...
if the battery goes flat, then you can have a second fully charged up.
dunno about for the Android models, but certainly the WinMo phones i've had, HTC have also put out a bigger battery pack with a new back plate.

probably need to turn off the background running option
settings>accounts & sync> untick the background data box
my battery lasts far longer since, and any applications that need it will ask if you want to enable it when they start up.
There is also a 1600mah battery soon to be released. I'll be buying one when they're in stock.

I have a hd2 and have had for a few months and its superb it does everything I want and more I had a good read about phones before choosing it and I am well happy I use it more than the laptop now
Having said that the desire is definatly worth looking at too
It's awesome for movies got a few mountain bike vids and avatar on the memory card and the quality is really good also reading at the mo how to play psone games on it
The iPhone is easier to use and has more apps but I personally prefer the hd2 and what you can do to them and with them I'm also getting a full days heavy use no worries and lighter use would be 2 daysPosted 2 years ago # -
With regards to battery life - mine was pants when I first got it, but it now seems to be lasting loads longer. Seems to take quite a few charges to get up to full capacity.
There's also various stuff online about how to make the battery last longer, by turning off updates etc.
I think that if you live in an area with intermittent 3G connection that can kill the battery too.....Posted 2 years ago #
