    ALWAYS Shimano.
If anyone tells you any different, you have my permission to kick them, as hard as you can, in the crotch. 8)

Don't get Hope unless you like getting off the bike ever 10 minutes to do them up or better still have a wheel drop out on a jump!

    XT every time!

XT are lighter and look better but are difficult to find. The standard Deore ones do the job just fine and will be much cheaper.

    Shimano first, last and always.

Mavic is probably the only real alternative. I'm not sure that DT RWS in a standard 5mm axle form offers any real advantages, and definitely not for the increase in price (but the 9mm and 10mm ones do).

Salsa quite nice, as long as you keep the cam clean and lubricated.
