Equally it’s a tiny bit of wear on something designed to be thrown down a hill with 80+ kg of inept meat on top of it.

Let’s face it, it’s a cosmetic concern otherwise you’d be cutting an internally routed frame in half to helitape the inside and reduce structural wear. As a cosmetic concern you’ll find people on both sides of the argument and neither will be right.

My SX Trail was cut most of the way through the BB shell by cables. (and it had a pretty massive BB shell; on some bikes it’d have been right through).

But also, there’s different flavours of damage. If I ride a bike into a tree, that’s fine, that’s honourable earned damage. If I scrape it in the garage, or it gets cable rub, that’s annoying. It’s like the difference between getting a black eye in a boxing match and getting a black eye by hitting yourself with the fridge door.
