  • What do I want for my birthday?

    Hmm.
    Mrs S keeps asking.

I’ve narrowed it down a bit:

Set of wheels for my old Rockhopper:
Currently rebuilding the thing when funds allow.
I’d still have to save up for a groupset, so they’ll just sit there unused for six months or so.
Seems a bit of a waste, really, as I have other working bikes that do pretty much the same thing.

    A Fitbit Charge 2:
Bought Mrs S one for her birthday a month ago.
    Impressed so far.
We’re quite competitive with each other, I’d probably enjoy using it.
The step-daughters both have one as well.
I’d prefer the Garmin equivalent, but seems sensible to stick with the Fitbit system, considering.

    A new tent:
The old one is getting on a bit and the Decathlon Backpacking series appeals.

    A posh sleeping mat:
    See above.
The old one is getting a bit old and takes an age to inflate.

A something unecessary but nice from Carradice:
The rack top bag appeals, as does a new Saddlebag or possibly the SQR Slim seat pack.
I don’t NEED any of this stuff, I’ve perfectly decent old Ortlieb panniers, bit scruffy but do the job.
But I do love Carradice stuff and fancy something useful for longer day rides…..

I have all the Lego, guitars, cameras and HiFi a man like me could possibly need.
I have video game systems I don’t have time to play.
I have enough clothes to ensure I’ll not freeze or get arrested.

Help me Singletrack, you’re my only hope.

    There’s always a power kite, I suppose….

    Some wonderful suggestions folks.

    Weeksy, bit over budget, sadly.
Spent most of my childhood building Airfix.

Bolivian marching powder and mucky tarts?
    What, with these feet?

    A ceramic poppy?
    That would complete me.

😯 Where are you planning on sticking it?

The Airfix ended up in the loft.
Couldn’t bear to chuck it away so just left it there when I moved.
    😐

    Just remembered Tamiya.
That could be a goer, never had one as a kid…..

Garmin sounds like a great shout, me and my partner are both super competitive and it gets us out and about alot, plus always a good excuse for the winner to buy the pub meals after! #balance 😉

It was my birthday yesterday. I got half a dozen ales and two handdrawn cards.

    Couldn’t be happier. 😀

I’m in a similar predicament. Just got a cordless mower so I really begrudge unwinding the extension cable to do the strimming.
So how about a cordless strimmer? …and some binoculars.

If I asked her for a few beers, she’d just buy me something else anyway.
I can’t cope with having to pretend I really, really wanted a stained glass lampshade again….

Hmm, how about a braaaahn Dacia Duster with Macan badging?
    Tempting.

I dread to ask, but it sounds like someone has to go without pudding and that’s just not fair.

    Unless you mean the road?
It’s a very nice road, but it’d be a bugger to wrap.

as you seem to like camping…. do you have a hammock?

i got one for Xmas last year. it’s absolutely great. Really changes the camping experience IMO (if you can pitch near a couple of trees). Also changes the summer back garden experience if you have anywhere suitable to hang it…. 😀

Posh booze of some kind? Vintage Port perhaps? Or even a tasting of some variety.

Should always be something you want but can’t really justify, or an experience that you’re unlikely to do if it wasn’t your birthday. Those rally driving experiences look fun. Maybe you could get one with a coked up co-driver. Who was also a hooker. Just to cover all the bases 🙂

Cant go wrong with a power kite , fun for all the family.
What about a naice watch , £1500 should cover it.
Or a Volvo XC 60 on pcp, where you rent it for a couple of years and then give it back ,but you tell everyone you own it…

I always ask for something made by the little’un. Anything i’d like is too expensive to expect other people to buy (£50+).

    You don’t understand.
She will buy me something and there is nothing I can do to stop it.
    Nothing.

She suggested the Fitbit, I offered to chip in half.

I’ve had a conversation with number one step daughter which would suggest that compliance with this directive would be a good thing.

And since I’d really like one, I am happy to comply.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
