My birthday was last Friday. I’m content. I genuinely couldn’t think of anything that I needed or even wanted.

All it took to make me smile was to see my boys. They gave gifts to charity, on my behalf.

Just pick a really obscure hand-tool that you “really want” – they then spend ages tracking in down, and so feel like they have done really well.

Birthdays should be all about things you don’t need but quite fancy.
It’s my 38th next month, I quite fancy a GoPro (but I’d never use it!) a Garmin for the bike (I’d rarely use it) a sound bar for the tv (it would look to big) a new phone (this is five years old but still fine), a loop pedal for the guitar (played it once so far this year) a petrol remote control car (?!?) etc etc.
I’d be more than happy with a new t-shirt/cup with a pic on drawn by the kids, a nice bottle of whisky and a bit of attention from the wife.
