Don't back down now - that's not the STW way.

Nice arches - I guess this thread is exactly what it says on the tin, when I was expecting something different.

This is up the valley from me, Hewenden Viaduct, Cullingworth, West Yorks.
Was unused and fenced off when I was a kid. Now part of a cycle path.

There's here, just up the road from where I was raised.

[img] [/img]

There's an annual beer festival right next door to it and piddling over the edge is still a rite of passage.

Arten Gill viaduct, Yorkshire Dales, is my nearest and you can see the bit of bumpy bridleway I ride regularly on the right side of the valley...

It's not as scenic as the ones above but this is local to me:

[img] [/img]

[img] [/img]

Stockport Viaduct, the largest brick built viaduct in Europe, 27 arches. When it was built it was the biggest one in the world. But it's not as scenic as my favourite one of Glenfinnan (the one used in one of the Harry Potter films):

Landore Viaduct, Swansea.

Not at all scenic, but designed by Brunel (at least part of it was) and the hill in the background has superb MTB tracks.

This is the Armsgrove Viaduct which passes above the Wayoh Reaservoir in Bolton. The viaduct carries the Bolton to Blackburn Railway and was constructed in 1847 / 1848.

[img] [/img]

This one is nowhere near me, in fact its in France, but it is Roman and mighty impressive...

sharkbait: there's a layout very similar to that near me at Marple.

[img] [/img]

Crosses the River Goyt. The aqueduct is actually far nicer looking than the viaduct which came much later (aqueduct is 1800).

Well I Was going to post the Stockport beast but I was beaten to it.

Then I was going to post the Goyt valley dual-track combo but I was beaten to it.

So I'll post a picture of the one phyically closest to me now:

I've ridden under the one in Finchley Central twice a day for many years. It's cool how the tube goes across it.

a few weeks back I caught the train out of Melbourne then rode south to the coast taking in the Camperdown - Timboon Railtrail

I suspect some guy from local tourist office had job of putting that old trolley cart there and probably didn't make the 10km or so back to the nearest dirt road

a fully restored trestle bridge near Timboon, Vic
Have to add that just up the road from where live commuter trains cross something similar (and I'd be crossing myself if I did the journey every day)

I also drive under it a fair few times a week and occasionally go on the train above but luckily the misery(Northern) line is not my local line anymore I've moved up to the Piccalilli (Piccadilly )line far more sensible

sort of got the ugliest of the ugly down the canal from us

Brunels 3 bridges a road on top of a canal on top a train track, madness!

Possibly one of the most recognisable viaducts in the UK - grew up just down the road from there. And I *never* got up to mischief throwing things from it, oh no.

Is it Pontrhydyfen viaduct? ๐Ÿ˜€ Sorry Johndoh, I don't know where that is?

Oh by the way, Pontrhydyfen Viaduct, just down the road from Afan:

The Glenfinnan Viaduct is on my signalling panel at work, get a lot of reports from drivers about tourists standing on the track taking photos!
