I realised today that I’m not sure what to call out when passing others. Is there a standard call? Should I just push on through and not say anything?
“on your right/left” is open to mis interpretation as in who’s moving to the left/right.
“passing on your right/left” seems a bit long winded.
“Excuse me my good man/woman, I was wondering if…..” Ain’t going to happen.
I am more used to the short and succint “paso”
I have no kind of benchmark as I’ve not heard anyone requesting to pass me, mainly as no-one has passed me! 😕

What do others say when passing you?
    Or does that never happen?

Usual practice is to sit roughly an inch of their back wheel and make sure you have got your loudest set of pro2’s clicking away like mad.

another trick is to attempt to give people the space they need.

Haha, is that a challenge? I promise you’ll come off worse when I t bone you off at the first corner! 😉

Seriously though, you mainly ride degla don’t you? Not surprised you never get passed, everyone I’ve ever seen there is slower than the shifting of the continental plates! Just shout “on your right” and pass on the right when it’s convenient enough to get past without too much trouble…

what is the rush? seriously! trailcentre too slow/bogged with people? **** it Don you have North Wales to play with! no?

At trail centres I only ever really pass strangers on climbs or the fire roads so just chat with them as I pass, on descents I wait for a big gap before I set off to get a clean run but if I do catch them I’ll pull over until they’ve given me a big enough gap to go again (or sometimes I’ll push back up for a full run again). it’s not a race 😆

Just bought a map and going for an explore tomorrow. 😀
Llandegla is quick and easy and I don’t have to navigate or worry about time.

I was once passed with the immortal words, “elite rider passing on the right, sugartits!”

Caught up with the rider. It was my husband.

Pass like a train innit. If you need to announce which side you’re going for, you’re not really fast enough to be passing…

HTFU, launch off the side of the trail, cut through the woods then gap jump onto the trail right infront of them. then shout ‘on UR right’

sounds about right to me, no?

Don if you’re riding at degla just pop out into the clywds, ace riding and no trail centre buffoonary to put up with. May be out on sunday morning if you fancy a guided ride

‘To your right/left’ depending on where they are positioned – get passed plenty uphill, but never DH yet with the exception of Fort Bill Black

Just got a map for the Berwyns which are practically on the doorstep, I’ll take some guiding whenI’m abit more settled. Thanks though, I will probably take you up on it in the future. 😀
@ Kevevs, I’m not sure if I can get across next week, I have to find some time to actually work. 😉

I think I’m going for a play on the Upper Ceiriog Way to get my bearings and see what’s out there tomorrow, little by little. I’m slowly getting used to mtb UK.

Just use a little ping bell only £3 or less. Polite and only occasionally freaks people out like this bloke down the marina earlier. 😆 His GF thought it was funny, and the dog looked at him in disgust.

Don; come over to Llandudno with us lot, innit?

Sign up to MBNW and find out about rides all over t’shop.
