i think a fair amount of it is staged, i agree with Pembo about hammonds loss of the land crusher, but i dont really care.
Its funny, its entertaining, its a bit of a boys own adventure!
a modern Hardy boys, (or that one with the wild life explorer brothers i used to read)On that 2000 foot dune, i noticed there were LOADS of tyre tracks.
i reckon the locals might play on it for fun?anyhoo, i enjoyed it, and the naam one. would love to do a mongol rally style adventure some time.
naam would be nice.Posted 2 years ago # -
It was entertaining and the photography was as good as always but yes, it's a bit staged. Anyone notice in some of the panning shots there was a hoard of film crew/producers etc in the background a couple of times.
They undoubtedly had the full support/back up helicopter etc, but it was light-hearted enjoyable TV anyway.

Maybe BBC4 could show an old pre-Clarkson Top Gear.
Perhaps one where William Woolard (I think that's who it was) does an in-depth review of the Austin Allegro. God it was dull in those days.

Indeed.Bad editing too. When the Toyota rolled down the hill, with all the bits falling off,(especially the four spotlights on the roll cage),in the shot they showed next, with the wheel ripped off,the undamaged lights were clearly still visible,in situ, atop the roll bar!!
Sorry to be pedantic - just rewatched it in slowmo and the lights are intact throughout......
Although I agree a lot of it is staged these days.....

I thought it was the best two they had done
apart from the camper vans going around the track.Posted 2 years ago # -
I am a massive top gear fan, and loved this. Pure and Simple entertainment throughout. Yes, I think some of the risks where exagerated but so what.
It was great!

however you look at it, its way, way better than watching Cranford or some other costume drama on a Sunday night.

i can't imagine a ponce like clarkson having the balls to drive on the edge of a crumbly cliff - he's all fur and no knickers
