6/ Some of the CGI of younger Luke appeared to be a pile of body parts glued together,

When was that, I don’t remember that bit.

    My Rating: A generous 6/10

Ah, gotcha. I doin’t realise it was CGI, I just thought it was his acting 😉

The Luke on the salt planet (Crait?) was a much younger version of his current self, as in dark hair (much less grey) and a lot slimmer. I’m guessing it was to match what he looked like when Ren last saw him at the temple. He also moved in a very different way to the retired, island Luke- I’m assumming it was a stunt double with Luke’s head stuck on top

Was I the only one hoping Finn was going to actually sacrifice himself and fly into the laser?

    No.

And ‘godspeed’ and use of the word ‘soul’ can get in the **** sea as well.

6/10, only because it’s Star Wars. I did enjoy the Poe ‘on hold’ bit at the start though, that was funny, but there were too many one-liners and lots of the dialogue was really clunky. The hyperspace jump through the flagship was ace. I’ll still buy the DVD when it comes out… 😆

    edit- this mainly though-

I thought this was just a lame attempt to jump on the bandwagon of films such as GOTG/Deadpool/Star Trek reboot which are popularising this style of humour. Doesn’t work IMO in a Star Wars film which is supposed to be po-faced.

    No.

I was thinking, FFS, they’ve finished ripping off all the old SW films (battle of Hoth?!) now they’re going for Independence Day!!

My plot hole is, if entering light speed in kamikaze move was enough to largely destroy the entire enemy fleet, why not do that from the start?

Empty 1 ship out, bar a pilot. Turn around, enter light speed clean through them, destroy and carry on about your business.

Not really a plot hole IMO (although I did think the same at first until I’d given it a bit more thought!) The transports weren’t supposed to be detectable. I suspect the idea of a suicide mission as a desperation move to save your friends is “acceptable” whereas it might otherwise come off a bit terrorist-y if there were still other options. 🙂

if there were still other options.

like an auto-pilot? or a droid? or a little nodding bird to press the button Homer Simpson style

Or even just build a big missile with a hyperdrive…

As the film would be a lot shorter. 🙄

Just watching Rebels season 3 with the boy. Kanan just did a Mary Poppins style space walk…so you see what Leia did was possible from a certain point of view!

Not read all of the posts in thread.

Watched it last night, disappointed that they really are struggling for new original plots.

So much is rehashed from previous films – attacking rebel base = empire strikes strikes back. Snokes captured Rey and tried to turn her – return of the Jedi.

    C’mon.

Be interesting to see how the next few episodes pan out now all the old characters are out. Star wars The next generation…

Went in with no expectations and not looking for faults but thought it was utter guff! Contrived and ludicrous at times (Mary poppins moment had me and the other half looking at each other going WTF)

It was too long and very cheesy. The only bit I thought was good was the moment the ships smashed and it went silent that was cool.

I’ve only skimmed the other comments but can’t believe people are falling for believing Ren telling Rey her parents are nobody’s!! He only did that to try to draw her to the dark side.

They are blatantly brother and sister, maybe twins so rehashing that again like everything else from this and the last film and saving the big reveal for the next film.

This is the first time I’ve come out of a star wars film feeling completely cold and that I will not bother with cinema for the next one. I’ll give it a generous 6 and accept that in my mid 30’s I’m no longer the target audience for Star wars.

I’m going to see it again tonight.
I could be mistaken but I’m sure Chrome Dome Phasma told Finn that he was their tracking beacon when they were fighting at the end.
When Hux told Snoke that they had the Rebels on the end of a string, the next scene was Finn too…

The film would have been a lot shorter if the Rebels had realised that the reason the First Order could track them through hyperspace was because they had a First Order deserter on board. Give him a small craft and a fake mission, let him get clear then jump to hyperspace.. 😆

Traditional Birthday treat watch for me and I thought…

Adam Driver is an excellent actor, he’s certainly got the character to play an evil baddy and he’s really pulled this role out. If it wasn’t for him, this film would be pants “of the first order”
Domhnall Gleason, fabulously tense. Grittingly oppressive. He’s playing this like a frustrated under pressure colleague I know well, threatening with control issues. Another standout character for me.
Daisy Ridley, nope. Didn’t like her in the last film and fail to see any redeeming features in this episode. I hope they’re about to change her for someone else, be fitting to get someone who can act.
Casting Oz Clark as Snoke was hilarious.
The rest came and went, didn’t really warm to any others.

Story line is lame, for the first hour it was touch and go whether to walk out, but then it turned into a plot. The scene about the rebels heading to the Planet was dull and too long, the only redeeming feature was when the supply ship turned and flew into a destroyer and the film stopped and went quiet.. that was impressive and yet didn’t fit within the film itself. It was a scene I think came from another movie and adapted for this film, glad it was in because that sequence was ace. The next cracking scene came at the end when Kylo turned apoplectic and gave the order to fire all weapons at Luke, then Hux gave the order and they crossed anger/leadership angst.. that was clever.
The rest, came and went in a blur of mild mannered dullness.

Fail to see where this series can go now, I think the storylines are too drawn out and failing to fulfill some decent plot lines.. if this is what I’m coming to expect then I think I’ve grown up and will wait until it gets endless replays on Sky and not bother with seeing it at the movies.

I’m with you. It definitely doesn’t feel like the mid-part of a trilogy. It could’ve been the final episode of one, with the tone set up for countless spin off stuff. Can’t say I don’t think that’s intentional.

Rebels all most destroyed, Kylo now supreme leader who is massively pissed of with Rey. Well I suspect he’ll be hunting down the rebels and Rey now to to try wipeout the others with the force. You know just like episodes 1 to 7.

Tauntaun: A Star Wars Story is an upcoming American space Western film centered on that Tauntaun off Hoth, a character from the Star Wars franchise. It will follow events leading up to his cruel demise at the lazerstick of a frosty Jedi featuring a voiceover from David Attenborough.

Few rebels left I admit, but Rey has the Jedi instruction manuals and clearly there are some Jedi’s in waiting. Rey trains up new Jedi as rebels rebuild their forces then we have epic showdown in last film.

Saw it last night with my son. I am now older than my dad was when he took me to see Episode IV and my son is old than I was – makes me realise how much time has gone and how much our expectations have changed.

Star Wars: A New Hope was a game changer – stuff the plot – it changed the way that films were done. The rest can never be the same.

However I enjoyed it (apart from the Mary Poppins moment) even if I did have to suspend my science knowledge for some parts. Even though it was a long film, I did not notice how long it was (except for the casino bit which really needed to be cut).

Plus Kylo Ren has more changes of heart and mood than my wife dress shopping.

This. For the ultimate dark side bad guy he’s awfully conflicted.
Didn’t really see why he went to the dark side either unlike Anakin’s slow descent over three films. What were Leia and Han doing while he was turning to the dark side? Just seemed odd.
Snoke was crap, could he really not sense that Ren was about to use Reys lightsabre against him? Because everyone else in the cinema could.

It’s been left wide open hasn’t it? Maybe there’ll be more low level Force users in the next film(s), rather than having it limited to light/dark Jedi/Sith? I dunno. I hope the next one’s way better than this one though.

Other than the milking scene and those stupid wankpuffins,I really enjoyed it. I thought the silence after the Destroyer crash was inspired.Very impressive being at a big screen location and get a ‘hear a pin drop’ moment to last for those seconds.
Looking forward to seeing a second time over the Hols.

Nah, I’m still failing to see how a small number of “rebels” can do anything pro-active against the Order. Its too thin, a handful of badly weaponised gang running for cover each time the Order finds them in another part of the galaxy? Nah, bit like kiss chase in the school playing field.
A bit Benny Hill, all thats needed are the Order to dress in skimpy skirts, have large boobs and blond hair and chase an old bloke around a tree for 50mins.

There was a small glimmer of hope though I spotted for the rebels, did you see the young kid at the end of the film (the one who looked out into the sky, the kid with the broom) Well as he exited his Animals liar, he went to grab the broom and it floated towards him, not much.. just about a couple of feet.. easily missed if you aren’t looking for it, but its a tiny glimmer of “Hope” for the rebels in that “the force” is still deep with some.

But, nah. Think I’m done with it all..
