It's a bit of a wordy one, would be good as an A level study at school though.

It is very Bennett, though I would agree all of his work has a heavy watermark.
It is good, very enjoyable, and the cast largely excellent. Of course, a significant number have gone on to do good things.
I missed the play when it toured, so have relied on the film and audio play.
However, it is by no means the best film I have ever seen. That honour lies in the darker reaches of the internet...

I'll admit it was different... wouldn't say it was refreshingly different! Having said that watched it in the Cinema on my first date to the now Mrs XC-Steve so suppose it did have some plus's going for it!

Watched it a while ago and can't remember too well but see from IMDB that I gave it 8/10 against an ave score of 6.7/10.

I went to see it at the edinburgh festival. I couldn't see much of it due to very tall/fat people sitting in front of me with big hair. Is it worth getting on DVD?

Interesting..one of the only films that I have walked out of. I like Alan bennet stuff normally but found it so contrived that I couldn't be in the same room as it.

I liked it. In fact I'd go so far as to say I liked it alot. Then again the closing scene had a certain resonance for me as my Mum was a teacher until she retired. That moment where Penelope Wilton turns around and wonders 'how many of them will come to her funeral...and what will they be', is very much the sort of thing that my Mum would do...
