I'm doing a route that goes along Mastiles lane
We're stopping in Gargrave so was looking at the best way to get up there

Is this B/W past Winterburn Reservoir OK – or should I look elsewhere as I'm not in the mood for mile after mile of boggy grass

There appears to be 2 options after the reservoir – to the right over Boss moor or the left to Bordley Hall
    any advice?

    TIA

It depends which way you are going.
I go from Gargrave over Eshton Moor, back road to Airton,Calton, Calton Moor, at the top of The Weets. I then head back and turn right down to Winterburn along the side of the water, head straight toward Giants Grave then back down to Gargrave. This is mostly well drained with some very fast singletrack.

Thanks for that – it looks ideal

Winterburn along the side of the water, head straight toward Giants Grave

is there a track to the West of the water or do you mean the one that climbs from the head of the reservoir SE?

I assume he means up the hill to gate & then down east side of reservoir

Gargrave: or you could stay on the BW to Bell Busk. Then BW north to Airton. Slightly longer but less road.

As EarbyPhil says, it's mostly well drained these days

Do you want to go up or down Mastiles Lane?

You could from Gargrave follow Mark House Lane straight from Gargrave > Bell Busk > Airton > Calton > Weets > Mastiles Lane > double back over Malham Moor and Boss Moor, then drop down Moor Lane in the direction of Hetton but turn right half way down and follow the bridleway to Winterburn and spin along the lane back to Hetton.

Reverse my direction if you want to climb up Mastiles Lane. There is very little in the way of mud at the moment, the bridleway your map to is fine at the moment.

Personally, I would prefer the Boss Moor bridleway over the Bordley Hall one, some of it is tarmac.

Pennine, quite correct, keep to the East of the water.
PS watch for the cows and calves in the field after the gate.

    Thanks for the tips

The plan is to set off from Gargrave & get up to Mastilles lane & turn left for a while before heading up over High Cote moor to Arncliffe & then from Litton Hall over to Buckden on what looks like a bit of an up 😯
Back across to Halton Gill & then Horton & Malham Tarn before returning to Gargrave

Not sure what to do after lunch 🙂

You're not planning to make it back to Gargrave then…….

remember a dales mile often equals 1.5 real miles!

Well that was a great ride out – 8 hours in all & 51 miles

We made it back OK – maybe us North Dales riders are just tougher 😉

Thanks for the route tips they were spot on

Very surprised at the lack of other bikes on the trails up there 😕
It was my first time in that part of the Dales – well impressed with the trails round there

    Definitely going back
