I have an old RS revelation fork that suffers from quite bad stiction.

So when you first press down on it, you load it up and suddenly it moves.

Same for a few cycles, then it loosens up.

Leave it for a while and it’s back to sticky again.

Just an oil change or a more thorough internals service required?

defo time for a lowers oil change and lube of the seals.

Having said that it hasn’t been used since about ’07 so it’s only really had a year or so of total use.

Get it done then. Will make a big difference.

There’s a video (shows you Boxxers but it is basically the same process) of how to do it on the tech pages on TF Tuned website and you can get the oils and lubes in a kit from them too.

I’ve watched the vid on TF Tuned’s site, looks easy enough.

Tim mentions something about instead of using the recommended 15wt oil, he uses a mixture of that and redrum, anyone know what the benefit of doing that is?

It’d potentially stay around the seals and what not a bit better than just oil, but I’m sure in the rear world it makes hardly any difference. It doesn’t need damping properties so it doesn’t matter too much what you throw in it as long as it’s not your mother’s socks…. Have you tried lubing the seals with M-Prep / Fork Spunk etc?

I use full synth engine oil, which seems to work well. If they are air forks, probably worth doing the air chambers at the same time.

Yeah, I don’t need the bike at the moment so I’m thinking it’s probably worth taking the time to do a full service rather than just lower oil change..
