You know, the ones that push up. Having gone 2 teeth smaller at the rear (Grrrrrrr) I’m suffering from chain slipping due to lack of reacharound (wraparound?). It’s a new chain and works fine on the bigger cog, so I know it’s the fact that the chain doesn’t fully engage enough teeth. Using a Doofer type push down tensioner at the moment, so looking for advice on a push up:
    Gusset Bachelor (unsprung roller)
Surly Singleator (if I can find one….)
    DMR Tension seeker??

    Experienced advice sought.

got a new singleator from Charliethebeardmeister
replaces a cheap push down doofer, Ive got this push up.
Working great after a few slipping problems.

EDIT: BTW that’s 36:22 on a 29er. I went 36T (and the 20T to make 52″) because it suited my rohloff. It has the benefit of giving plenty of chain wrap

I have used a few chain tensioners over the years and the only two i’d use are the Surly Singulator and Pauls melvin. (own both and they have been one a few frames)

Cheaper ones do work. But for muddy damp conditions its usually for me a false economy.

stick a half link in the chain.

I had the same problem and went for a halflink chain which solved it.

The Surly singleator I’ve got is crap. The springs are too weak to get any decent tension on the chain. Do it up ‘tight’ enough, and the spring will inevitably fail. Dunno if they’ve got an improved version but the one I’ve got is rubbish.

I reckon the DMR one is better, or one that bolts into one place, like the One One/Superstar one.

Aye, but you need to weed your raised beds.

How will a half link chain help if the problem is chain wrap, not tension?

    Aye, well, that might work.
I’m still waiting on payment info by the way (did you get my email?), but Hotmail seems busted just now.

    got this one,it’s pretty good.
though I used a fireeye spur for a while.the spring snapped but a ziptie through the tensioner and round the chainstay sorted it out.
actually.that worked really well.but I’d already ordered the yess.

If you have an ISCG mount you can use a chain device. I have one from superstars that works well.
