My front brake, a shimano m575 is pretty spongy. It works well but i’d prefere a firmer lever with a bit less travel. The whole system is full of fluid and has been bled. Any ideas? I had problems with poor braking performance before but that tuned out to be contaminated pads. The pads have been changes for sintered ones.

Assuming you’re right about it being bled properly, you need to pressurise the system.

Attach a syringe with some fluid to the caliper bleed nipple. Open the nipple. Depress the syringe somewhat, forcing an ‘excess’ of fluid in the system. Whilst maintaining this pressure, close the bleed nipple.
You should now find you have less lever travel, and a firmer feel. Fine tune this feel by using more or less pressure on the syringe.

Also works with Hayes and Hope.

*DISCLAIMER: No manufacteurer will tell you to do this. It’s a bit of a bodge, but it works well, especially with Shimano.

Nice one, I’ll give this a try soon.
