Revel Rascal
- Price: builds from ยฃ5,999
- From: Revel Bikes UK

Interesting Mountain Bike Alert! The Rascal is a straddler. It stradddles the short travel down-country genre (130mm rear travel) and the trail bike genre (150mm fork up front). What does this mean? Very probably it means that a lot of you reading htis will be interested in such a bike. It’s carbon fibre. It uses the CBF (no, not that acronym, CBF stands for Canfield Balance Formula) suspension design. As well as being a bit different in suspension design, the Rascal has some intriguing geometry numbers: 65.5ยฐ head angle, 76ยฐ seat angle, 445mm seat tube (L), 471mm reach (L), 436mm chainstays.
Revel Ranger
- Price: builds from ยฃ5,999
- From: Revel Bikes UK

This little Dennis The Menace number straddles no genres. It’s down-country all the way baby! 120mm rear travel, 130mm travel fork. This is the most recently updated model in Revel’s range. Full carbon, yes even the linkages. Revised stay protection. Piggyback shock friendly. Big rotor friendly (up to 223mm in the rear). Three sets of bottle mounts. And the CBF kinematics have been specially tweaked for short travel boing boing.
Fox Flexair Long Sleeve Jersey
- Price: ยฃ69.99

So light and breezy that this jersey may not see the light of day much in the UK, but I have my hopes that it will make for a useful 3-season base layer (under the outer layer of your choice. Features: slimmest of fit, Polartec Power Dry fabric, Borgini fabric on the sleeves, 4-way stretch, slit hem, bonded neck opening to reduce chafing, perforations all over the shop. Also available in Berry, Black, Chalk White and thid Lime Green (which isn’t very lime green but hey).
Fox Flexair Pant

Bell 3QTR-Air Mips Ratio Helmet
- Price: ยฃ204.99
- From: Bell Helmets UK

What do you call this type of lid? Three-quarter? Ear-protector? Pizza delivery moped? Although such helmets aren’t particularly marketed as such, I think they make for ideal winter riding hats. Bell: “keeps safety at the forefront for those not wishing to wear a full-face”. Features: 3-Qtr Air Mips, Fidlock closure buckle, “Dual Flow Ventilation”, quick-release action camera mount under the visor, washable antimicrobial liner, dual density EPS, in-mold polycarbonate shell, two position visor. Shimano Saint PD-G8040 Flat Pedals
- Price: ยฃ159.99
- From: Freewheel

For the steampunk flat pedal enthusiasts out there (there will be some), these Saint flatties are very distinctive looking aren’t they? Aside from looking like the flat pedal of choice for H.G. Wells, these items feature: extra-wide, dual-concave platform (121 x 110mm), 10 traction pins per side (with 4 optional inner pin positions), platform design for “consistent pedal height”, thin pedal body for ground clearance, forged alloy pedal body with composite “skid plates”, “impact-resistant” traction pins, fully serviceable with readily available replacement parts.
Drift ARC Black & White Shoes
- Price: ยฃ182.00
- From: Drift

From the Drift website, “We make small-batch, hand-crafted waterproof shoes from the finest leather, designed to clip into two-bolt, SPD-compatible pedals.” Drift is a US shoe company that makes lots of shoes for lots of reasons, one of which is riding bikes. The ARC shoe here is waterproof, clipless and comes with a nice press stud lace tidy tab. The claims are thus..“ARC is an all-season low-top cycling sneaker, engineered for power and lasting stability. A stiff composite shank delivers efficient power transfer to the pedals, while a reinforced toe box protects the foot and maintains structure and control. The full rubber outsole supports movement beyond the bike. Prepared for any day and any weather โ never mind the rain.” Seems a timely delivery to us considering IT HASN’T STOPPED RAINING FOR 3 DAYS.

Poo brown trousers and white shoes?ย
I really wonder sometimes if they people who choose colour options for offroad cycling products have actually ever seen those colours in real life, or give any thought to how they might be received by the public?ย
I mean who in their right minds thought – “I know, the color of my gloves ought to be the same shade as the shit I do when I’ve not eaten enough vegetables"
Found memories of my original 575 and subsequent Asr5c. The price of that seems reasonable in todayโs money.
The rascal looks very interesting
The current Loam Wolf mega test series is sponsored by Fox and some of the designs on the kit the testers are decked out in are terrible.
Those Shimano flats look excitingly different from many.
Wonder how long the anodizing will last. Some black Hope flats I got less than a year ago are way more worn and silvered than years older Nanos.
I like the combination of dwr coating and really narrow ankles on the trousers, to make sure you get as much water in your shoes as possible. Love the colours though the top struggles a bit with seeththroughness I think?
That top looks like my late grandadโs long sleeved vest and the trousers look โincontinence pant readyโ! – I have some experience..
The front view of those trousers make them look hideous.
The outer parts are.replaceable composite AFAIK
Should look good for longer. Pricy though.
Am I the first person to win the accolade of thread of the week whilst simultaneously sitting out a forum ban? 😂
Surprised that those Fox troos look so bad – I have some Defend ‘pants’ and the cut is spot on
