Been niche biking for a few years, thinking of going mainstream….looking at a 09 Enduro

a) What sort of weight are we talking ?
b) I'm 5'11" ….should I def be buying a large ?
c) Are they as much fun as they look ?
d) Should I calm down and consider a La pierre Zesty instead ?

Any thoughts / pics of yourd appreciated

Lots of good bikes in that style,worth thinking about Trek Fuel,or Giant Anthem,worth trying some out,I did,and ended up with a Trek Remedy,which I really like,but it's too much bike for 90% of the time,and loads of fun for the other 10%.

a – Depends on the build, but mine is light enough! Built with sensible kit, including Time Z platform pedals, Easton Havocs, droppy post, SDG ti saddle etc. Nothing crazy. (Not weighed it!)
b – Not sure, you'd need to try one as you're between M and L, I would say. I'm about the same height, and ride a medium, but worth trying for yourself.
c – Oh yes, very much so!
d – Maybe. Go try one.

I have an 08 s-works and it's fantastic. I'm just under 6ft and ride a large but i have long legs so again try one. Mine is 28lb but has heavy hope m4's and had a heavy front tyre when i weighed it. I've never ridden a better climbing bike and it's a sweet descender too. Can't post any pics at the mo as i'm on my phone but it gets far more admiring glances than my mates remedy.

a) light enough to ride all day, you can still give a spanking tho.
b) NO! – Medium! (large speccy's are enormous stupid long farm-gates, s'why i had to kick the habit)
c) oh yes.
d) isn't a Peter more money? – the Speccy Pitch is an awesome bike, also worth a look at, 95% of the bike for 60% of the cash.

i'm 6'2" – and a large speccy is far far far too long for me.

They do have a long wheelbase, but with that you get unrivalled stability on techy downs.

As for a Pitch being 95% of the bike for 60% of the price – no they aren't. Put them side by side and you can see exactly why they are 60% of the price.

I ride an 09 specialised enduro and yeah it is a great all rounder!
Get a medium, I have a large and i'm 6ft 3. A large would be too big for you at 5'11 imo

I have an 09 enduro and think it's a very good all rounder. I've done all day XC rides, endurance races, loads of trail centres and DH at Cwm Carn.

Im 6ft (so only an inch taller than you) and test rode both a M and L, I found the M too small in terms of length and plumped for the Large. Id try before you order one though as there seems to be quite a difference between the two sizes.

6'2" here & on a medium with a long seatpost. The large is a bit of a gate.

Its a great bike, but the stock suspension lets it down. Once you've sorted that, they really fly – up & down. They can take some pretty serious abuse too.

Living up here nr Inverness, there isn't anywhere to try M &L side by side

Suspect a M might be the answer ?

Is it any use to say I have an '06 enduro in L (I'm 6'2") and it fits me really well (I presume that Spez's sizing hasn't changed much).

I've had loads of fun on mine, it has served me well.

With a bit of tweaking I've cut the weight down a fair bit. If you wanted to ride harder you could beast it up.

And it is a brilliant all-rounder. Well, if you'd consider Quantocks, Dratmoor, Haldon, Afan, Cwn Carn, Coed y Brenin, Woodbury all-round…

Great bikes… I have an 04 but have ridden every Enduro since. They're fantastic as an all round machine.

a) Circa 30lb is a starting point, 28.5lb is easily achievable.

b) Try before you buy. I'm 5' 11" and my Large sized frame is a tad, well large. More recent frames are airier still.

c) Yes. Earlier models are prone to pedal induced squat, 2005-6 models are hard hitting all rounders. 2007-9 models are lighter, but less bulletproof.

d) Yes. Try everything before you buy. I can't emphasise this point strongly enough.
