Very exciting I know! Just bought a new frame and the seat tube is a fair bit larger so I need a new seatpost. I'd like a thomson but the money isn't going to get near that! Are there any strong, lightish ones about for under 25 quid that come in 31.6 flavour? Anyone tried the superstar ones?

Every seatpost I've ever had other than Thomson has bent, except the carbon one I snapped.
I'll only buy Thomson now, unless I need a cheap and nasty one that I don't need to last

Sadly not under 25 quid (it was for a while) but this worked pretty well for mehttp://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=40225

Pro FRS fits the good but cheap bill.

Buy a used Thomson? I bought one for £25 off this very forum. It won't be the last either.

Pro do good stuff, my Koryak's not light but it's strong and has an only slightly annoying clamp.

This is a bit more, £33 but should be ok.
http://www.stif.co.uk/mtb/product/syncros-am-seatpost/7159I had this one below on my bike for a bit whilst saving for a dropper, it didn't break but the graphics don't last if you're moving it a lot.

It's the one I thought of to answer your Q, but then noticed its only 27.2 left.Posted 4 months ago # -
Can't see how people snap seat posts. I use 150 gram kcnc posts on all of my bike with no issues ,snapping or bending. I just don't get it...
Anyway, buy a USE shim for a fiver from CRC. And yes, shims are fine to use and won't kill you.

I've never broken a seat post either. I did consider a shim but thought it might be a bit of a pita as I'm one of those saddle down when descending people. Thanks for the suggestions I'll look into them.
Should have mentioned that I don't care about the graphics!

Onone Twelfty, shameless Thomson ripoff and non the worse for it.

Crikey, that Twelfty is only a tenner!

I have a couple of good quality Mondraker own brand posts in 31.6 flavour, one new and one used.
Email in profile if interested, either would be cheaper than £25.

Do I win? Can't go wrong for that, I've only done a couple of rides on mine but can't see any issues, it is very Thomson like (I have 2 thomsons)!

Thanks for the offer chakaping but i think that for a tenner I'll take a punt on the Twelfty! daveh you do indeed win, for now!

I never bend/t a seat post apart from the one on my Raleigh Bomber. In a bomb hole.
But that maybe due to riding style and how much of the post is sticking out (it did stand out a long way with the Bomber - nasty scar). So depending on that and alternatively to a used Thompson (good call!) you could try these:
Ragley Spike is £23 at CRC
What MTB? magazine ran a seat post test in recent issue 130.
They recommend: Race Face Ride XC for £27 and Pro Koryak for £40 as best value, but also recommend Ragley Spike. Winner is FSA SL-K Carbon for £75 by the way.Posted 4 months ago # -
I bent my last Thompson
Moved onto thudbuster now - (sorry not much help that)
