another benefit of all those old FF compatible lenses I have been buying is that I can use them perfectly on a K1
Well if you’ve already got lenses that would work that makes the decision a whole lot less complicated. It’s going to be priced really well (for a FF camera) from the off – I think something like £1599 for the body. Compare that to the Nikon D800E which is the same spec and costs around £2300 and the pentax looks a bargain.
give the usual duo more competition
Well I think Sony and to some extent Fuji are doing that pretty well currently. If they carry on with their laissez faire attitude to mirrorless, within ten years one of these two will not exist.
I’ve been developing a new theme to extend the ‘street/stranger portrait’ approach and try to get more meaning, engagement and human insight into the images that I get as a result (and because the idea of memory to me is very appealing and interesting). The project is called ‘Memories’. The idea is that you aks a stranger to relate a memory of their choosing to you; it could be anything, happy, sad, scary, sexy etc. You take their picture as they recount the memory and then select the image that best reflects that memory or else offers the most human insight.
I’m not sure yet whether or how this will work in practise but this is the first image from the project:

The memory is shared under the image so click through if you want to read about it.
Given how little success I have convincing people I know to let me take photos of them I can’t imagine going up to strangers but I like seeing yours Greg! I had a look through the rest and I love the one with the girl in the yellow.
A relative beginner to the world of DSLR photography, but here’s a few I’m proud of so far –

Given how little success I have convincing people I know to let me take photos of them I can’t imagine going up to strangers
I have far more success with strangers than friends precisely because they are strangers. There’s less ‘risk’ involved for both sides, but mostly from the subjects. Having your portrait made is, to all intents and purposes, putting yourself in a vulnerable position. The anonymity between photographer and subject helps reduce that sense of vulnerability.
At least that’s my take on it. Thankyou though for the feedback. The girl in yellow, yes I know exctly who you mean. She was very lovely, as a person I mean as well as a subject. She’s Hungarian and while I always give my card to those who agree to be photographed and promise them either a free soft or hard copy, only about a third get in touch. She is one of the ones who did not.
Continuing my series of street portraits, a young lad with an eclectic sense of fashion, a student of design and textiles and an ambition to be a fashion designer.

My mate getting chased down by Steve Peat on Good Friday at Revolution Bikepark. It’s fair to say he passed him like he was standing still before boosting the big hip. Great to see him riding in the flesh and my mate is now very proud about getting in Peatys way… 😀
A rather blustery crossing of Crib Goch on Good Friday.
Memories.
My dad took me up Crib Goch as part of the Snowden Horshoe when I was about 12 years old in the most attrocious weather. You could see more than 5m, which when I got back to the Pen Y Pas YHA and saw the postcards of just what it was I was crossing, was probably a good thing.
Off the Paris again tomorrow for business but hoping I might have some street time on Wednesday afternoon before my train back. In the mean time, here’s window lit portrait/candid of someone very important in my life.

I was never interested in portraits before she was born.
I haven’t done triptychs or diptychs before lagely becuase the PP package I use doesn’t allow you to stich images together (or if it does I’ve not figured out how). But I’ve had a few portraits where I thought there were good compositional reasons to do it. These two examples were crying out for conjoining so I found a simple website that makes it really easy to do.
