Long shot, but I know there are a few owners on here… my aged but faithful Octavia has just broken its door handle mechanism – driver’s door won’t open from the inside. This was preceded by a period when the catch made a sharper clank when you slammed the door.

Anyone had the same? Easy way to fix?

From my petrolhead mate and Octavia nut,

    take door card off
he’ll need a set of torx
    and some plasters
    tell him to buy haynes
    not as a “go away”
but as it has a good section on door card removal
    try not to break clips
if you do break one or two, I wouldn’t worry
check / grease window regulator while there
as they fail, dad has had two go
    check door mechanism rod
they come unhooked / break / need adjusting

    Thanks chaps.

I did join briskoda, and found an answer straight away – broken rod, cheaply available on ebay, common problem. Also found a very good pictorial guide to removing door trim.

    Thanks again.

Cougar, it’s just a shame you didn’t set that to piano.

    *snort* fool. (-:

It’s formatted like that cos it’s C&Ped from a conversation on Messenger, couldn’t be buggered to tidy it up.
