Right, thankfully the 'I rocked up' one seems to be on the wane a bit now, but in it's place we now have the word 'Random' being used to describe anything apart from things that are truly random. It's tolerable in teenagers, but makes me cringe in fully formed adults.
So does this set anyone else on edge when they hear it, or am I uniquely old and grumpy in my intolerance? 🙂
And for fellow grumpy people are there any current phrases that get on your mammaries too? And don't suggest meme, that's far too obvious 🙂

Poeple that say "meme" instead of "habit" or some other simple word.

    "you know my legs?"

    "mm?"

"you know how many i've always had and that?"

"like,? two legs or some shit like that?"

"yeah well i've only got one leg now."

    "…random."

anything to do with tv shows/films/cultures i'm too old to understand.

using the word "jokes" instead of "funny" ( "yeah blad it was bare jokes innit" i think translates as "of course old chap, that was a rather amusing incident wasn't it")

WTF's a meme? Just an annoying new phrase/idiom? When did 'we' start calling them memes?

How do you pronounce it? Mee-mee or meem or, even worse meh-meh?

    Oh my days…

    Meme, like gene 🙂
Originally coined by Dawkins in the selfish gene. As a mechanism for applying evolutionary theory to human behaviours.
Willing to be corrected, on that though.

I've heard a few kids say 'LOL' when they think something is funny. Really gets on my nerves.

Also noticed a few teenagers speak about themselves in the 3rd person.

    bloody crazy kids!

    Lol – no I hadn't wikipedia'd that first 🙂

Ironically, Dawkin's own theory could be seen as a very faulty "meme" since we now know that the information that is transmitted from one cell to another is not simple in the genes, but is more an emergent property from the interaction of the genes, plus many other elements within the cell. Dawkins though has doggedly stuck to his guns and failed to embrace the new scientific paradigm……….

Yourself/myself instead of you/me – even some supposedly bright people do that such as my boss.

Yeah? Literally? Any video footage? ;0)

    One that bugs me is:
    'Have you got…?'
    'Yes, I do…'
No, you 'have' not you 'do' you **** ****tbucket. aaaargh.

Presume you've been watching repeats of early Friends episodes? That "craze" was around when I was a sprog. Either that or you're a slow uptake kind of guy!

No, you 'have' not you 'do' you **** ****tbucket. aaaargh

Its just short for "Yes, I do have.." but you don't have to say the "have" part because its already been mentioned.

"Yes, I do…" is the correct way of saying it.

The 'got' in the original question is entirely superfluous

    'Have you the screwdriver?'
'Yes, I (do) have the screwdriver'

It sounds weird without it but it never used to be there. It's evolution of language, innit

The same thing happens to me. I think in my case though its because the elastic that stops me loosing my mittens is too short, 'cos it happens when I try to hail a cab too.
