OK I posted last week about thinking of going to back to a hard tail as I couldn't afford the costs of servicing the rear shock (not to mention the forks) on my full sus.

Lo and behold I get advice that I can service aforementioned parts myself.

Does anyone have clear idiot proof step by step instructions on how to strip and service a 2006 Manitou Swinger Air 3 -Way SPV Shock along with a list of what spares I will need. The manual that came with it just tells me how to add air to it, it doesn’t cover disassembly etc neither does any manual I can find online.

Likewise am I likely to make a hash of servicing a set of Fox float R forks (am I better off not invalidating the warranty and just sending them to MOJO?)

Well i asked on here and haven't had an answer to my question the instructions are as clear as mud….

i just did an air can service of my 05 (ish shock)((the one with 2 air valves rather than the lever)….

    remove from bike

    remove slider frame spacers

let air the of the shock and SPV (very important)

you need a strap wrench although the air can is very very tight and i wound up using brand new vise grips ( only left two marks on the shock canister (gripped it on the section where the seal is didn't need too much force) can grab a photo if you like its the thickest at this point and i didn't crush it 🙂

    once its slack

remove the red SPV valve core

then put a long 3mm alan key into the red valve head and unscrew the valve head..

with the rebound adjuster end bushes end in a vice completely unscrew the air can..

then pull up (your fighting the negative air spring doing this)

    once it pulls apart

clean and degrease the internals with meths or Isopropol alcohol..

next grease the piston o-ring with something like Prep-M or Judy butter

(now this next bit is guess work by me since i couldn't find the info)

get some red rum / fox float fluid (10 cc ish)

add 5cc to the air can with the piston still stuck out to lube the negative side and push in and add the remaining 5 to the positive side

push body back together screw the air can back together (grease the seal o-ring)

refit the red SPV valve and core

    pump back up

    jobs a gooden

Hi Matt, if you can get the service kit from Mojo and get over to Long Eaton I can show you how to service your forks, float R's are fairly simple…

Jason- email is in your inbox.

Uplink- nice one, looks a bit scary and requires specialist tools. Might just leave well alone and keep greasing it for a bit longer.

Best to clamp the shaft in a vice in between a pair of wooden blocks with a radius cut out so as not to mark / scratch the shaft.

Sure i read this in the Manitou service guide.
