...fishy?
Any time I'm fixing a puncture, I tend to detect a smell of fish coming from the air which escapes from the puncture hole or the valve as the air is released from either before I place the patch to fix it.
Not a huge issue, I know, and perhaps ripe for a raft of daftness in response, but sometimes, when you have a question, you just have to ask it.

What's an innertube?
Butyl rubber gives off molecules called amines, which have a fishy odour.

Haven't heard chinny reckon for ages, definitely underused!
Same here , made me giggle when I read that 
All you have to do is listen to 6 Music, and two DJs on there say "chinny reckon" every three seconds!
Another vote for fish bones (I heard this a while ago)
Aminines or whatever sounds more scientific though.
