Fatima Whitbread got the only British gold medal in the Athletics World Champs in Rome in 1987. I was in the crowd, and it was the only opportunity to sing the National Anthem. Will always have respect for her, despite the people who will (inevitably) comment on her looks.
Was the season that Ben Johnson came through, and got banned the season after. His 100m world record run in Rome was amazing at the time (although drug fuelled in hindsight).
Stephanie Powers and Willie Carson were the only names I recognised. Guess that dates me.
Lineup features quite prominently on the BBC site, presumably they’re having a bit of a giggle at the calibre of the contestants
Dougie Poynter, 23, went into rehab earlier this year for stress but says he’s looking forward to going into the jungle.
“I would pay to do something like this if I wasn’t doing it for TV,” he admitted. “I am so excited.
“I am really into nature and Sir David Attenborough is a god to me.
Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully in Coronation Street, says he is not looking forward to the bushtucker trials and is especially scared of flying, heights and claustrophobia.
“I have a morbid fear of flying,” the 36-year-old admitted. “I don’t like heights and I am claustrophobic.
“I have had hypnotherapy and I have also been to therapy to face my fears.
“The therapy was amazing even though in the days leading up to going in the jungle, I did have moments where I wondered why on earth I had said yes. But life is to live and so I think ‘why not do it.’
“Doing this show is a once in a lifetime opportunity….”

The only good thing to have come from all this is – given Freddie Starr’s current rather chunky appearance- the Sun were able to run the headline ‘Freddie Starr ate my Hamper’
There was a footballer called Mark Wright, played for Derby County, Liverpool & England. Scored a goal in the group stages of Italia 90 that kept England in the competition, if memory serves. However, having seen the above post, I guess it’s not him then
